Psycho pass

(Anonymous) 2015-02-14 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Because I'm always late to new series.

I just started this one and I'm pretty intrigued, six episodes in or so. Or rather, the concept seems really interesting, and the main cast does as well. But I am kind of annoyed how all the crimes so far either involve fat, dorky looking unattractive guys, or extremely sexualized girls (some minors). I'm not honestly that sensitive but the disproportionate amount of sexualized dead/battered girls is kind of annoying me.

Other than that, what did everyone think of this? Again, I think the concept is cool and so far liking the "good" guys. But I'm also not sure if it'll actually live up to its potential yet, seems like a lot of fun dramatic possibilities haven't even been touched upon yet.

I see Psycho-Pass as the anti-V for Vendetta, to be consumed together. Both present a horrible situation and a horrible solution, and they take opposite conclusions on which cost is less worth it. (Personally, I'm V for Vendetta all the way. The end of season one of PP appalled me.)

I'm the opposite of you. I liked V for Vendetta, but only in a "cool story, would not support this dude IRL" way. So I loved Psycho Pass's ending. And I think real life constantly shows it's what most people would do, even if they don't think they would.

Spoiler territory

In real life, I'd probably say both of them are wrong. I'm not keen on the idea of forcing change by violence. But when a society is built on killing and imprisoning innocent people, I think there's always a reason to wait. Always a promise that if you let the brutality keep going for now, there will be a way in the future to stop it. Not any specific time in the future, just in the future, and it will remain in the future no matter how long you wait and how many people you let suffer.

Or in other words, “If not us, then who? If not now, then when? Will there be a better day for it tomorrow or next year? Will it be less dangerous then? Will someone else's children have to risk their lives instead of us risking ours?”

Didn't watch Psycho Pass, just checking in to express the fact that I broadly side with V For Vendetta here

Is this anime actually worth getting into?

Someone give me an honest opinion, bearing in mind I haven't watched any anime since the third season of Naruto apart from some lolarious fandubs of Free! and Attack on Titan.

op

I guess it really depends on what you're into. I have a lot more trouble getting into anime than I used to and I'm easily turned off if I feel like something is getting too cheesy or cliche, and I like darker stuff. I like Attack on Titan, so I'd say Psycho Pass - so far - is kind of in that realm where there's gore, and a bit darker of an atmosphere, and you're not sure which characters are trustworthy. The ages are older, though, which is kind of nice (I believe the main cast is all twenty+ if that makes a difference). The concept is interesting and I'm not that far in, but it's being developed.

I'm not quite sure if six, seven episodes in, it's the best thing I've ever seen though. So far it's been subplots, that seem to be loosely tied together to the plan of some mysterious lead antagonist, but I'm having trouble caring about this antagonist so far and he seems a bit generic. Some of the gore seems to go a bit overboard - I don't mean it offends me or whatever, but some of the murders (especially "sexy" murders of girls) are a bit of an eye-roll and so personally lose me a bit.

But overall so far I kind of like the grim, futuristic sci-fi possibly dystopian atmosphere, and I like the protagonist (she's really growing as a character, even as far as I am in), and the team she works with. I'd tentatively suggest so far it's better than your average anime but it really just depends on your genre and what works for you.
