They address that in the second season,

"Look, I know I shouldn't have used that word in your basement, but it's not like you were innocent. I really like you, Kurt. But the fact of the matter is, the way you were all over me last year? if I did that to a girl, she'd take out a restraining order."

And burt tells Kurt later, "i was talking to Carole, and you weren't totally honest with me. She told me that you had a crush on Finn and you weren't afraid to show it."

That makes me happier, but one writer retconning another writer still leaves the fucked up situation.

I don't think it was a case of one writer retconning another writers work, since the series creator is the one who wrote the initial episode and he's the one who talked about going back to it.

Its been a while since I watched the older eps, but I also don't think Kurt really acted that much worse than the way a lot of other characters have acted in that show. It's just the mood whiplash from going from a comedy or dark comedy to a dramatic scene.

You know, I get that... except that the scene was presented as a stand against homophobia. Finn not wanting this situation means he's a bigot. I don't care what words Finn uses. He shouldn't have to deal with Kurt ogling him.

I'm glad it was Ryan Murphy but... yeah. Still sucks.

...But it does matter what word Finn uses. If they only way he knows how to announce his displeasure/discomfort was to show bigotry, then that's a problem (and it does mean that he was perfectly comfortable believing that Kurt deserves society's approbation for his pushiness because he was gay rather than because Kurt was unwanted considering how pushy he and Rachel were to each other. You didn't seem him calling Rachel a bitch when she was just as unwanted at the time. Because that attention was acceptable even if unwanted).

There are certain words you don't use even when you're mad or have the moral high ground. He had other options (like telling his mom) that he also felt too uncomfortable to use. Understandable, but not reasonable.

I really hope you're an LGBT person but, regardless, I am so fucking tired of being treated like an eggshell. I don't like that word or any other slur but it's just a word. There is so much worse that can be done to me. I will call people out when they say things like that but, given Kurt's behavior, I think he deserved a lot worse. If Finn had punched him over that, I would have applauded. From day one Kurt was a crappy stereotype and a bad role model. I don't need perfect gays on TV but he was just painful to watch. I think he improved over time but, yes, too much focus on Kurt and Blaine (the character I wish Kurt had been) was one of many reasons I had to drop that show.

Sucks too because I liked Karofsky. I was much more like him as a teen and the Kurts I knew were never so over the top.

I have to ask, how is Blaine the character you wish Kurt had been?

The whole sissyphobia in the gay community (like when Tuc Watkins bashed Cam and Mitch on Modern Family) is really crappy. Guess what, not every gay guy out there is a masculine he-man.

It's great that you've managed to not feel the hurt of that word, but there's plenty of gay kids who feel the hurt of that word as much as they would a punch. There's also plenty of sociological and psychological theory to back up the fact that slurs can be considered, and for many people are, violent acts. To act as if words cannot be weapons, especially if they're weapons backed up by societal oppression, is completely unreasonable. Your experience or processing is not universal. And to be quite frank, I'd rather the kids who do still get hurt by that sort of thing feel validated than coddle your annoyance at something that happens because you feel it is too often shown.

Like I said, Finn never came close to being violent to Rachel despite the fact that she was scheming in the same way and had also been told to back off.

If you don't like Kurt, you don't like Kurt, but your dislike seems to be affecting the way you view the situation in a way that I don't think is warranted. But thanks for telling me you used to bully obviously gay kids because of self-hate, I guess. I'm sorry you felt that way. I don't think you'll have a problem finding comedies where gay characters' love lives aren't in the forefront however (mostly because they won't be main characters at all).

The fact that girl-on-guy sexual harassment got a relative pass is actually a completely separate issue from whether or not you think Finn didn't react nicely enough in the face of Kurt's ongoing sexual harassment.

Not really. The issue is whether Finn's reaction was an example of homophobia (and whether the show should have presented it that way) rather than just frustration with Kurt's sexual harassment. He didn't react the same in which homosexuality wasn't going to be an issue, so yes it was an example of homophobia, even though Finn has a right to be angry. Just because people are justifiably angry doesn't mean that grants them the right to react with bigotry.
