What is this 'embarrassment' you speak of? We have people who admit to binging on MLP:FiM here. 'Shame' is such an old fashioned concept.

And yet, there are definitely things people love that get crapped on. What if you liked 50 Shades of Grey? Do you really think that's not something you'd get shamed for?

You don't think there are people here who are hesitant to talk about certain fandoms or aspects of fandoms because of the shit they'll get? Isn't there a secret about RPF today?

In the specific case of 50 Shades, some people would shame you, but others would defend you viciously

Yeah, but I think you'd still be aware that your fandom is not a "good" fandom.

One might get shamed for liking something, but that doesn't mean the person would feel ashamed for liking that thing.

I don't see how this is relevant. The thread is about those fandoms that get shamed. Whether you also feel shame or not has no bearing on that. (Although the thread does state it's for the people who are influenced by the opinions of others.)

oh lol. that's what i get for not reading the OP. mea culpa, dude.

yeah, but, i don't really know what fandoms are shamed for the most part, except for the big ones like 50sog and superwholock and both of those have enough supporters that i don't care if others don't like the fandom.

If I liked 50SoG and somebody mocked me, I'd tell them to shut up and move on with my life. What else are you going to do? Sit at your computer and cry?

Or, you know, some people just don't talk about it. Some people are sensitive to what others have to say, and if they get shit on for liking what they like, they will feel horrible.

I don't think this thread is as unrealistic as you're painting. Lots of people like certain things that they are made to feel shame for. There's nothing in the thread to suggest you can't be loud and proud about your love of the fandom either. But there ARE fandoms that get grief. Surely you can agree with this. This thread is just to see who likes those kinds of fandoms -- regardless of how they react to that negativity.

What I'm getting from this is that you're an oversensitive weenie who cares too much about what other people think.

Unless there is some great fandom war going on that I don't know about where BNFs dox each other and have their minions shank the dox'd on the street, then someone not liking your fandom is not a big deal.

Lol, no! I don't give a fuck about people dissing my own fandoms. I have enough love to drown out haters. :)

I would, however, like to know who likes the unpopular fandoms. You're confident. That's great. But does that mean that the people who aren't as confident have to be ostracized for not having thicker skin? Caring about what others think is very normal. It's great to be free of that worry but it's certainly not how everyone feels. And there are fandoms out there that get a lot of shit.

This thread isn't about how people deal with their love of shit-on fandoms. I answered that above. They can be loud and proud for liking 50 Shades. I just want to see who feels like they love something that's getting shit. That's really all there is to it.
