Please explain where matters like Darfur come into this argument? Yeah, it's not a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things, but neither is any of this. Anime? How does that cure cancer? ... Look, I see what you're saying, but I really think it's disingenuous to try to drag legal issues into this, seeing as fandom is one huge legal grey area to begin with. I'm not a lawyer, but I really don't think that copyright applies to derivative works, and... well, like I said, all of fandom is sort of dubious, legally. You could never bring a case to a lawyer saying "this person made icons of my fanart without asking!" At best you'd be laughed at, and at worst you might get in trouble yourself.

It's already been said, yeah, but... legality is not an issue with fanart! Fanart is already illegal! O.o

I mean, while you're at it why not get your panties in a twist about people taking art for icons from original artists/manga-ka without giving credit? That happens a hell of a lot more often, and is DEFINITELY illegal. Do you want me to email Kentarou Miura and ask permission to use his art for the icon I'm using?

This sort of double-standard in fandom just pisses me off. Just take a chill pill and stop worrying about credit - in fandom, everyone's ripping off someone. If someone used my art in an icon, I'd be flattered as hell.
