The "he's 100 years old reason is BS."

For me, it's DEFINITELY her relation to Peggy. It's just so squicky. And that doesn't apply just to Peggy --> Sharon.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE (with the power of a thousand suns) fanfics that have Steve/Howard then Steve/Tony. It's creepy.

And Peggy is Sharon's aunt. Sharon also mentions being on the phone with an insomniac aunt in The Winter Soldier.

The reason it's SQUICKY as hell (on Sharon's end) is because Sharon is clearly close with Peggy (her introductory scene has her calling her after all) and she would have grown up knowing that Peggy was in love with Steve. I mean, there are old news reels of Steve with her picture in his locket. Sharon would have heard stories about Steve from Peggy and known that her aunt was in love with him.

For her to look at Steve and want to make out with the guy who was in love with her elderly aunt is SQUICKY AS HELL.

Let me put it this way: imagine being attracted to someone your aunt or mom was in love with but couldn't be with.

I don't know about you, but it creeps me the fuck out.

I don't get that revulsion feeling but I feel like it'd be incredibly disrespectful to Peggy from Sharon's side. If you have any respect for your aunt in that scenario at all, you don't start a romance behind her back with the same guy, you just don't.

I don't care if it's squicky but it would turn Sharon into a character I have no sympathy for, and I'd start rooting for her to get a terrible end because what kind of supposedly good person does that?

Yeah, that bothers me too. It would feel to me like the films are just saying that "oh well, missed your chance with Peggy, at least you can have her younger, hotter niece." As though Peggy's so easily replaceable and you can go for the younger "model" in the family….

Same. And yes, I will not touch fics that have Steve/Howard then Steve/Tony. Ugh.

Thank you for your consistency at least. I appreciate it.

This is how I feel too. It just doesn't sit right with me and feels like some weird betrayal. Maybe this isn't rational, idk, but I don't like it.

To be perfectly fair to Sharon, there's a difference between being attracted to someone and having intentions to do anything about it.

I could easily see her being attracted to Steve because he's a good-looking, great guy. But she'd probably be very conflicted about it and not want to actually pursue it out of respect for her aunt. Never mind possible work-related conflicts. And it's been awhile since I've seen TWS, but is there any real indication that she is attracted to him? She turns him down when he asks her out. Yes, she implies that maybe he can ask another time. But she's playing the part of the approachable but maybe not attainable neighbor. He needs to be able to like and trust her without getting too close.

The creepiest thing about it to me is how people push for it in-universe. Steve has no idea who she is, and Sharon may or may not even have feelings for him, but everyone pushing it KNOWS, and that's so weird. If they wanted Steve to have a fun, beneficial relationship, why push for one with guaranteed baggage and complications for both people? It really does seem like they encourage it because "Peggy 2.0," which is massively disrespectful to both Peggy and Sharon.
