There's rage now but it will soon go down as a cult classic like the way that notorious Quincy episode infuriated the punk community way back when but has since been embraced by it. In a few years people are going to look back and laugh at how much wrongness was in that episode and love it for the schlock value.

Why? It's just more of the 'Gamers are violent' BS that got debunked in 2005.

Considering some of the other CSI subculture episodes, I'm not sure furries have much to complain about.

oh man the furry ep of CSI. I used to be in LOVE with that show and needed to watch every episode but I could barely make it through that ep because of my unreasoning terror of fursuits, which hasn't at all lessened to this day and makes it awkward at cons when I suddenly spot a fursuit and have to flee the scene. I have no idea whence this fear originates but it seems to be here to stay.

True story: Even as an adult, whenever I see a mascot at the supermarket or the mall I try take a different route just to avoid them, and if I can't, I just smile nervously at them and try not to show them my fear.

I know they're just humans in disguise AND that we're both in a public space AND that they're just normal people trying to do their (likely super sweaty and hot and unpleasant!) job, but there's something about them that scared me as a kid and still does today.

I'm not scared of them but mascot costumes give me such second-hand embarrassment that I don't like seeing anyone in them, let alone coming close

I have a crazy fear of puppets. If I'm in a situation where unexpected puppetry happens, I flee. I even had my little girl (now 8) put herself between me and puppets. It's a dumb, irrational fear, but its real.

Hahahaha the furry episode. That was a classic.

That furry episode was hilarious.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a furry too, and I have been since the early 00's, when that episode was really infamous. At the time, it really upset me, partly because I was younger and going through that phase where I was really sensitive to anything that I felt was putting down my interests, but also because it was around the time when hating furries was the "cool" thing to do online and I saw a lot of posts on various sites along the lines of "Furries are so gross, I saw them on CSI!", citing it as if it was a legitimate source.

Now? I find not only that episode, but pretty much every crime drama that tries to be all "relevant"by making references to subcultures to be completely ridiculous to the point where all I can really do is just roll my eyes. The other day I heard my cousin talking to my brother about how ridiculous the Law and Order episode about Gamergate was, and we all just sort of cringe-laughed. That's what those shows are, ridiculous, and they really shouldn't be taken seriously at all. I think the only problem is when people do take them seriously and act like they are a legitimate source of information about subcultures.

Same! I'm not surprised by younger folk getting defensive about their favourite thing getting mocked, but still. How can anyone take those eps seriously enough to get mad about them. It's like getting mad about a conservative news channel interviewing nobody related to video games about video games.

Are there any CSI episodes more cringeworthy than 'Fur and Loathing in Las Vegas' and 'King Baby'?

Am I embarrassed I know the names of those episodes? Oh yeah.

Oh my gosh, I haven't watched CSI in so long but I might end up watching those two episodes because they do sound ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-25 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Wierdly enough, even tough I was like 7 when it came on, I remember the AB/DL episode really well, mostly because it was the first inkling that there might be adults that still liked that stuff like I still did. But then they went on to imply that the people who engaged in those acts were wired/fucked up. Little kid me was made really uncomfortable by that episode. It actually affected my views on my kind for and embarassingly long time. I still remember it years later.

The furry one makes me laugh but, I dunno, this one just seems kinda tasteless. Probably because it went the SVU route. People getting sexually assaulted (especiall ones clearly meant to rerence real people) just isn't as funny as a dead ambiguous furry. In fact, I'd say it's not funny at all. Hard to enjoy the episode when your wincing for somebody.

Though if we just watch the Ice-T scenes it's wonderful.

That furry episode was awesome. Way better than L&O's Gamergate episode. (Sorry, Ice T.)

Text: As a furry, I’m loving gamers’ response to Law and Order’s Gamergate episode. Now you know how we felt when CSI did a furry episode. (I’m betting adult babies must love this, too.
