Cloud with Aeris, Tifa, Barret or Yuffie? Or a write-in?

I slaved to get him as a date on my second playthrough of FFVII.

How did you do that?!

I wasn't even aware that was possible!

Oh it's fully possible, but you have to manage to spurn everyone and do the Vincent side quest before you get to the Gold Saucer and trigger the date sequence. It's doable, but you have to kind of squelch the usual game sequence around a little to do it.

I think there are probably a few FAQs devoted to it by now.

Not a joke. It's something that's actually possible in the game.

This was well over 15 years ago now though, so I have no god damn idea how one actually has to go about it or whether you have to get it through a game glitch.

Uh that's really, really not possible. There is definitely no Vincent date scene. There are plenty fan made videos on Youtube, maybe you're misremembering?

Definitely not misremembering, however I might have used a Gameshark and not remembered that. Like I said... over 15 years ago.

Cloud/Tifa because I'm boring

Cloud/Aeris. Or Cloud/Barret (not being silly, I legitimately think that in FFVII this was a well developed relationship with intentional homoeroticism, and tbh all things considered he's probably the best option Cloud has.)

I. know. right?! cloud/aeris is so good, but cloud/barret is under appreciated as hell. tbh I think I like them more platonically than sexual but their relationship is amazing and I didn't even realize it until I re-played the game again as an adult. I wish people talked more about barret in general because he has some serious depth.

About Barret, you took the words out of my mouth. Barret has so much more depth and serious characterization than fans give him credit for. Yeah, he's funny, and at times a comic relief, but he's got so much serious stuff as well, and so much development. His relationship with Marlene is just so great - wanting to be with her and cherishing her more than anything, but still feeling the need to fight, and still not sure if he's doing the right thing.

I will never forgive the sequels (mainly Advent Children) for the lack of Barret, and how Marlene was stolen so Cloud and Tifa could have a "family". Urgh.

I love barret for so many things. I could talk all day about it but I AM WITH YOU REGARDING MARLENE ugh I hated it so much. the tifa/cloud "let's raise orphans! (+ marlene)" family gimmick left an awful taste in my mouth for several reasons but it was so disrespectful to barret's character. square's treatment of him makes me sad--he was clearly super important in the original game (cloud/aeris/barret trio) and it showed, but now square needs everything to be super serious and beautiful so angsty pretty boys get games while barret is shoved to the back burner for life. I can only imagine what would happen if an actual FF7 remake happened.

For sure, that's exactly what I felt in regards to Barret and Marlene. Barret was conveniently written away (when, as you said, he was one of the three original characters of the game!) in Advent Children because Square-Enix is obsessed with one certain aesthetic style (for both the male and female characters) and Barret is definitely not that. I'm pretty sure someone who hasn't played the game could watch Advent Children and totally miss that Marlene is Barret's daughter at all. Certainly they'd miss that Barret actually gave two shits about her. I really hated the weird play family dynamics with Tifa and Cloud. Well, Tifa I get, she's been watching Marlene since FFVII, but Cloud? He's equally absent as Barret in AC yet he's obviously being shoved into some kind of father role.

Oops, rant.

Anyway, I miss Squaresoft. I dread any remake of FFVII because not only would it definitely lose its charm and humor, it'd lose the cyberpunk 90's atmosphere and aesthetic. And oh god if they cut the Barret date scene, I like... idk start an angsty online petition that they'll never read.

lol I thought I was one of the only people who shipped them. I think they would be weirdly good together and I like the idea of Marlene getting to brag to her friends that her mom can punch a dude through a wall and her dad has a gun for an arm. Most badass parents ever
