Tumblr ruined this movie for me. The whole fandom is dedicated either to writing Stucky porn or creating the saddest possible meta they can imagine. Now all I can see when I watch the movie is layers upon layers of Saddest Steve.

It was the best movie of Phase 2 and as close to a Black Widow movie as we’re going to get, and now it’s unwatchable. Thanks a lot, jerks.

Honestly...I kind of think you're being overdramatic. I just made a Captain America themed blog a few days ago and it's basically filled with adorable gifs, has a nice mixture of Sam/Steve, Stucky, Steggy, and Steve with Natasha, and has some cool meta -- about PTSD, the costume design, the evolution of language throughout the 1940s, etc.

If it's that big a deal for you though, why not try to get away from the fandom a bit? Sometimes I'll do that where I'll just stick to reading fic and rewatching canon.

you don't have to read all the meta or fics. I avoid it just fine. I understand why it might ruin the fandom for you (I feel the same way about the Sherlock fandom), but it seems pretty melodramatic to say that they ruined the whole movie for you. you'll persevere somehow

But, why did you go looking on tumblr?

Why are you angry at people who post stuff the're inevitably going to post there? Outside tumblr, I've actually seen a lot of meta articles that focus more on the story, or projections for where they're going with it etc.

What I mean is - the stuff you seem to be wanting IS out there - but you went looking for it on tumblr, which is never a good place for that sort of thing, because it's more image than discussion based, so yeah - you're going to be flooded by the juggernaut ship's fanart and millions of drabbles.

Man...you would HATE me.

I love Depressed!Steve with the power of a thousand suns. But I don't even look for happy fics -- my favorite is one where he has severe depression, heaps of PTSD, eventually realizes he's immortal and has his family life fall apart and he basically becomes a full time mercenary in a figurative hell. That's how it ends and I love it to pieces.

Oh well, different strokes for different folks and all that good stuff.

I'm trying to follow your thought process. The movie is ruined for you because all you can see is layers and layers of saddest Steve. So, like... there's only a limited amount of sadness you can put up with in movies? And what the movie presented by itself was okay, but the additional sadness you are projecting on it due to your fandom exposure pushes it past the sadness acceptability threshold?

Okay, I can actually understand not liking a movie because it's too sad for you. That's fair.

But here, as in other places: If the fandom can put you off the source material permanently, you must not have liked it that much to begin with.

Okay, overly mean sarcasm is over. Look, in general, I get it. I try to find blogs to follow that aren't Thorki, yet suddenly there's hardcore thorki porn outta nowhere on a blog that I was considering. It can be frustrating, but the solution isn't to overdose yourself on hate. Step away, be patient, and keep looking for the community you want.

Other people aren't out to ruin things for you.

What kind of circles do you hang around? Most Winter Soldier metas I see are allegories for old wars, current drone programs, and other political events. If you're seeing too many things you don't like on your Tumblr dash and too few things you do, then you really need to trim your dash and find new blogs.

I get being annoyed by fandom being full of what you're not into(sucks when that happens) but why would you stick around and read the sad head-canons or fic when you don't like it?

I've got plenty of stuff I don't like seeing in my fandoms and I either don't follow blogs that primarily blog about those things or I blacklist it. Problem solved.

Hmmm, I kinda had the opposite reaction as you did, OP. I saw the Avengers, CA 1, and Thor 1 & 2, but it wasn't unt I saw CA:WS and got into the fandom on tumblr a little bit that I really started to enjoy the movies. I love all that meta and sad depressing stuff.

I do have movies and shows that I am afraid fandom might ruin for me so I try to stay as far away from it as possible. Right now, there's another fandom that I only follow like a couple people and it's made the whole thing much more enjoyable. Before I tried following tons of people and it was just exhausting.

Unlike everyone ELSE in this thread, I feel you OP. I've had to block everything to do with those movies. I enjoy them as is, I don't need to bombarded by depressing shit, on top of the RL depressing shit Tumblr likes to reblog.

Block anything and everything you can, it should make things easier.

I have every manner of Bucky Barnes, Steve/Bucky, anything related to the ship and character blocked on tumblr. Very few things get past me, and when they do they tend to irritate me.

Like the other day there was a cute Steggy art on my dash and the comments MADE THE FANART ABOUT BUCKY. Then when the Avengers poster (the badly photoshopped one) came out the other day, people were making the poster about Bucky and Stucky. It's ridiculous and actually kind of embarrassing.

Luckily I love Steve, Sam, Natasha, the rest of the cast and their dynamics enough to still adore the movie, but damn I can't even mildly enjoy anything to do with Bucky now.

If you're a big Nat fan find other Nat fans? If you use tumblr from a computer you can always blacklist Steve/Bucky so you don't see it. If you hate the depressing head-canons and meta that much you might want to look elsewhere. (Though to be fair, the movie is already pretty sad. Steve was experiencing some major depression in Winter Soldier.)

I totally understand being in a fandom that isn't giving you what you want (been there, done that), but you can't change what people like; the best you can do is avoid it and/or find another area where the people are more in tune with your interests.
