This secret is really sad, talking about m/m and f/f shippers knowing their ship will never be canon.

It just made me really sad and I can't even really articulate the reason.

I know what you mean.

It does mean that it owns when it actually happens, though (I always think of that time nursejoy was watching American Hustle)

I don't remember when we watched American Hustle, but I do remember when we watched Rock of Ages and we all flipped our shit (or maybe it was just me. I flipped my shit) when Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand's characters were actually a couple because we were shipping them but, I mean, like the filmmakers would actually make them gay and haha they are singing a love song gotta love that queer bait... OMG THEY KISSED OMG WHOA WOW THEY ARE ACTUALLY A COUPLE WOW WOW WOW.

I felt the same way about Rock of Ages. I was getting tired of it, waiting for them to drop the joke, but then they were a couple at the end!

:( We may wish and get excited over subtext but tbh I don't think any korrasami fan actually expected it to be confirmed canon in the finale and I'll return to my jaded ways in the next fandom :(

I certainly didn't. My ways have remained jaded.

No no don't get jaded. Korrasami brought me good luck. I started watching The 100 right after that and my next femmslash ship became canon.

IDK, sometimes I'm relieved my m/m or f/f ships (those that aren't actually set-up as being potential m/m or f/f within canon, I mean, i.e. the characters aren't currently known to be gay/bi etc.) are highly unlikely to become canon. I just see the potential for terrible writing making the whole thing cringeworthy, an influx of SJW's into the fandom hating on it for "not doing it right" or "doing it in a way we don't 100% approve of."

As much as I'd love more representation, I don't want my ships tainted by that crap either.

But then I never like it much when a het ship becomes offical canon either, so I'm probably in the minority.

See, what would make ME really, really happy is for there to just be more m/m and f/f ships that are established canon couples from the get-go (or at least established canon in love/attracted to each other, if not actually together yet), none of that "will they won't they" and "are they or aren't they" bullshit that wrecks so many het pairings.

Like, see, I theoretically understand it when people say they want more m/m or f/f friendships to be treated the way m/f friends-to-lovers relationships are treated in canon -- because it's such a double standard and therefore totally unfair.

But on a practical level, it has always also completely baffled me. Because to me it's like saying "You know, it's so unfair that only the tomatoes in this garden are being destroyed by poisonous brown slime fungus! Why aren't the cabbages being destroyed by poisonous brown slime fungus too???"

But given the way m/f couples are generally treated in series (to the point where Peter/El in White Collar was a breath of beautiful fresh air. A loving couple! That stays together! They communicate! They support each other! No stupid drama! Is this the end times???), once m/m and f/f become mainstream why do you think they'll be any different?
There will just be drama and misunderstandings and breakups for everybody.

quite a few of my gay ships became canon so things are looking up i think.
