I'd say this is bs, but I was scrolling my dash and I saw the picture of the dress and it looked white and gold. But looking at the linked pictures here, the dress is blue and black, and I went back to my dash, and now the picture of the dress there is blue and black too. Either someone keeps changing the image, and it's a prank, or it has to do with something like the way light is hitting your computer screen?

Okay, I cannot see it change color. It's totally white/gold (with a blue-ish camera phone tint/shadow) in the main picture, and totally blue/black here. What.

I was about to post about how I could imagine the gold being a shiny black that's reflecting golden light but I didn't think the dark blue in the other Gawker pic could be bleached out so much so as to look white (or, alternatively, it's gold and light blue, not white) but then I tilted my ereader away from me... and it turned black and blue and now I can't unsee it.

It was about 50/50 split between people seeing blue (purple)/black (dark brown) and white/gold. I'm seeing periwinkle/dark brown.

I'm still convinced that it's just white/gold and everyone saying blue/black is in on the joke that it's not actually blue/black and they want to confuse everyone who just sees white/gold.

I have looked at this picture for way too long and not once have I seen it as blue/black.

I see black and blue. I know some people are switching between what they see, but I can't. It's always black and blue for me.

Although, I can understand seeing gold. I can see a gold/brown/olive colour in the lace, but I imagine that's only by cause of the poor quality of the photo. I just accept that it would be black in person, so I see black.

yep saw it at work on a co-worker's phone. it was blue and black. when I got home on my laptop it was blue and gold. now it's blue and black again.

There's a simple answer here: I saved the images, opened them in Photoshop, and used the colour picker.

The lighter part photographed as a low-saturation blue. The darker "gold" part as a very low saturation orange or red (so, kind of gray).

In the other photo, it was dark blue and reddish/purplish black.

So, really, it's grey and gray blue (not azure, not cyan) and orange-gray in the photo everyone's looking at. It's a really washed-out photo.

Your mind is recolouring it.

How does anyone see white?! HOW??

I see blue/black and was 100% convinced that it was some kind of hoax-cum-thought-experiment until I asked my most trusted friend to take a look at it and he said white/gold. At a push, he can see a very, very pale blue and gold. But his first instinct was white.

HOW? I hear all the science about cones and light and perception but THAT THING IS BLUE.
