Looks to me like this style leaves enough wiggle room for most interpretations. I mean, she doesn't look fat.

That was her old pilot design. She's filled out a bit now.

I see, well then, I take the OP's point.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
... she looks average-sized to me? Just very stylized/cartoony.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
average-sized =/= skinny

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
average-sized =/= fat

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
OP said nothing about fat. They just said that it bothers them when she's drawn skinny.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Let's face it, in most media, average-sized codes as fat. Not supporting this code, but let's not fool ourselves.

Text: I always get annoyed when she's drawn as skinny in fan art. (And I happen to be a pretty skinny woman myself)

OP:

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm fine with her being drawn as anything between "average" sized and plus sized, artists can have their own interpretations.

But it pisses me off when she's drawn like a skinny waif that just walked off the runway of fashion week. There isn't anything inherently wrong with that, but it looks absolutely nothing like her character.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Man, that art is awkward.

But on topic, I agree it's not *great* to slim down a fuller figured character, but it's generally hard to get fandom to stop doing these sorts of things. Fanartists will not take it well if you dislike their interpretation because it's just that their interpretation, it's not canon nor is it meant to be.

For every weird thing fandom does with fanart their are also a lot of cool things so if I don't like something I just ignore it and give attention to the things I do like. I'd recommend giving kudos to the artists that do draw her in a way you enjoy, reblog their art, give them a compliment on their blog, etc

You need to be skinny to have that waist.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
This. The fact that she has such a clearly-defined waist even with that poofy dress makes it pretty clear that she's slender. If you actually draw out the outline of her body under the dress, you can see what I mean.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And look at that last picture from behind with the bow, that's a teeny, tiny waist.

It's a poofy dress on a skinny girl.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Da. Plenty of average to overweight women have small waists though. You can have a small waist but still have big legs and big arms.

I definitely don't read the design as overweight but to me it would be someone who definitely has thighs and fat on them, not super lean or super super skinny.

I don't care if artists want to draw fanart differently, but I don't think OP is off base to think the original character design is not meant to be overly skinny.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
You can be fat and have a comparitively small waist. Fat distribution varies greatly between people. I'm a small-waisted fatty myself (98/78/130).

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. I'm a size 28 and I have a tiny waist, proportionally. If I was buying clothes based on my waist size, I'd be wearing a size 18-20.

(Anonymous) 2015-02-28 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The picture OP used is misleading. That's her old pilot design. This is what she looks like now (The one on the far left is the current design)
