I feel like in recent years, filmmakers are getting a lot cannier about this - using old songs that a huge chunk of the target audience probably remember fondly, to help market their film. I guess this secret suggests it's working...? Funnily for me it has the opposite effect. Doing that kind of thing swiftly turns "mediocre film" into "film I hate with a burning passion". Not necessarily this particular one, which I haven't seen, but I can think of a few other examples. Any time *thing I love* is forcibly paired up with *thing I don't really care for*, the latter tends to become *thing I really really hate*.

...Okay, looking up the soundtrack, yeah that definitely would have pissed me off, I probably would have sat throughout the whole film grinding my teeth in suppressed raaaaage (mental note to self, never watch this film). In fact it's just reminded me how fed up I got of someone I share living space with (who looked forward to this film with enthusiasm) singing/playing "Hooked on a Feeling" repeatedly in the weeks prior to its release, when that song was in the trailers. Dear gods was that ever annoying.
