34. Love is an incredibly powerful emotion as well. Are the people who make fanshrines and the like retarded for obsessing over a fictional character and get defensive when someone doesn't like said character?

Granted, hate is the more destructive emotion so I guess character bashers are still petty, but if someone hates a character that much, then they're not really different from the person that loves a character to the same degree.

20. I ACTUALLY AGREE WITH YOU THERE. 4!Kids as a whole sucks, but if it wasn't for their shittastic dubs (that and DiC's version of Sailor Moon), I wouldn't even be here. :[

Actually, I personally think they picked better VAs for Pokemon than Pokemon USA did. :/ But I might just be too used to the old voices...

4!Kids just needs to freaking stick to kids anime, that's all I gotta say. I dunno wtf they were thinking when they picked up One Piece and tried to make it kid friendly. STICK WITH SHIT THAT'S ALREADY KID FRIENDLY, FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST.

48. I'll start buying anime DVDs when they stop charging $30 for 5 episodes of a 24 episode series.

Seriously, I can buy a whole season of the Simpsons or House or something for that much. :/

48. The problem is, for TV shows here they've already made their money with the TV broadcast--DVD sales are just 'extra'. To bring anime here, they have to pay licensing fees, dub actors, etc etc. It's really not a fair comparison.

Besides, if you're still paying $30 a DVD, you're probably not doing your comparison pricing very much. You can get the entire season of Princess Tutu + extras for $30 on Amazon. Rightstuf's always having some sort of big sale--AND if you preorder DVDs from them it's an additional 20% off or so, I believe. That + sales = major savings.

You have to remember a lot of people can't or don't want to buy things off of the internet. I would also buy anime if it wasn't so ridiculously expensive. I understand your point, but why could I find Fruits Basket at Target for $20 for 6 episodes, yet 3 episodes of Chrono Crusade is $30+?

Well, for those that don't want to...that's their choice, but it *doesn't* excuse the fansubs, then. I can't tell you Target's reasoning behind the prices--you can easily find CC for cheaper elsewhere. Anime's just more expensive because it's niche.

Two words: Box sets.

Anyway, you can fall back on the logic that the reason they charge so much is because people pirate.

Though I buy DVDs because I'm a collecting packrat whore, not to support the artist... and hey, if you want to support the series you can always buy related merch. *will not admit to having spent $100 on a giant Totoro plushie*

The reason why domestic DVD prices are what they are is because not only is there a much smaller demand for them than, say, the latest Hollywood blockbuster going for $15 a disc, but the Japanese companies set the prices.

Do you know why they do? Because in Japan, they sell their DVDs for high prices as well (usually with less episodes, unless I'm mistaken). They don't want their domestic market buying from overseas. You wouldn't happen to know why their DVDs are so high, do you?

That'd be because of the rampant piracy going on in China. Whooooops. That sounds just a little familiar...I wonder if that's contributing to the problem at all...hum...

In short, crai moar. I got the entire Desert Punk series in a nifty metal tin with some cool book inserts for $35. If you can somehow manage to delay the gratification a bit, you can watch your anime series after you finish House and the Simpsons.

Not to mention you need to start shopping for anime at Best Buy instead of wherever you're getting it from. $30 is ridiculously high. I usually get my single DVDs for around $15-$20.

tl;dr.

edit: OK, sorry, I was just miffed at the tone of your post. I'm not really an anime person (I buy video games); I can count on one hand the amount of anime I've watched from start to finish, and none of it was licensed when I started watching it, so I sort of needed to watch it online fansubbed to get it. There's no need for me to 'crai more' over something I don't really care about.

I'm just stating my opinion. The prices are too high and the justification for setting the prices that high are not enough to make me STOP watching a series when I'm in the middle of it and waiting for an english version to come out months later, starting with episodes I already watched.

So, yeah. :/ Sorry my opinion of anime DVDs doesn't bode with yours.
