I don't mean atheists who say "Oh, thanks, but I don't believe in God" when you mention you'll pray for them during a hard time.

Those are cool atheists.

The atheists I'm talking about are the ones who leave comments on Christian youtube videos saying things like "God isn't real!" and "You're deluding yourselves and you're morons!" or, worse, if the video contains a relative who is deceased, they say things like, "There's no Heaven. He/She/They died and you'll never talk to them again."

Those are the atheists I can't stand.

My grandpa used to say people don't get loud and defensive about something unless they're not sure they believe it. He was the type of guy who looked at someone saying "God ain't real!" and kept walking. He didn't have to defend his Christianity. He was a devout, good man.

Now, to be fair, religious people who shove faith at atheists who don't want it are just as rude. The problem does run both ways.

This, though I'd include "Saying any variation of '-insert Holy book- is just fairy tales!"

It's a fair enough thing to believe, but I've only ever seen it said to attack and/or dismiss someone's faith which isn't cool.

So by "I judge people who are atheists," you meant "I judge anyone who pushes their beliefs onto others in a rude way"? I agree, but what an odd word choice since atheism doesn't have much to do with that

Fair enough. Frankly, I judge people who say, "I'll pray for you" without being sure their prayers are actually welcome. I always thank people who do this to me because it's the thought that counts, but inside I think, "Oh yeah, thanks for doing the one super easy thing that requires virtually no effort on your part."

It doesn't bug me if it's someone who's far away and can't help with whatever's going on, because well-wishes, whatever the form they take, are about all they can do. But when it's someone who's nearby and could do something that's actually remotely useful, could you make it any more obvious that you just want to look like you give a shit without actually giving a shit?

I'm an atheist and I've definitely said all those things to people who were using Christianity as an excuse for bigotry and hatred, far as I'm concerned they become fair game when they start with that shit.

Back when I tried to use Twitter, I followed someone who was generally ok, but liked to retweet Richard Dawkins on atheism. It didn't totally, irreversably change how I felt about the person, but it made my blood pressure rise. Eh, context. I agree going out of one's way at inappropriate situations to belittle their faith is douchey. But I'm not remotely bothered by people dismissing Christian mythology in academic/scientific arguments as being fairytales. Tell me that the earth is 6000 years old, or that a flood wiped out everyone, or that creationism is a thing, I'm going to respond that your source is bronze age mythology.
