Sorry for the late reply, mid-terms ended up eating me alive this week. @_@

Yeah, I always look at my icon and wish that frosting and I were on speaking terms!

I think they've got a work around for it? At least, that's what I've heard on the grapevine [patch 3 or 4 I think is where they mentioned it]. But I've also heard it's something of a pain in the ass so idk how much interest that would be for you.

Yes! Most of it anyways. I don't care for how they're doing the modern day stuff [shocking, right?], since they're actually addressing you the player with it. So that creeps me out a bit.

The main character so far kind of reminds me of a big puppy in some ways, which is kind of a nice change from the recent MCs. The dynamic between him and Elise is fun, and it's a nice change between the last time a similar partnership sprung up.

Annnd I'm trying not to babble so I'll leave it there with "It's been a blast."

Poor you. :( Frosting doesn't agree with you? (Or you on a diet?)

IDK either, but you've intrigued me. I've mostly heard bad things about Unity, but if it's just as fun as the other AC games I might have to eventually give it a try.

Haha, I actually enjoy the modern day stuff... I'm one of the few, apparently. AC3 cracked me up with how meta it was, and from the sounds of it that gets even worse in Unity.

I've heard nothing about the MC! I liked Altair, loved Ezio and Connor, and disliked Edward for most of the game. My reactions are all over the place, lol.

I'm glad you've been enjoying it, though!

Oh no - I just can't frost anything to save my life. The last time I tried the top of the cake actually started peeling off - for no reason anyone could figure out.

From what I've seen a lot of people are repeating complaints about glitches that have since been fixed and/or things they just don't like in general. Which is a shame since, it some ways, it *plays* more like an AC game than Blackflag did. (Blackflag was fun but...well. I never really enjoyed the ship stuff, even back in AC3 so I'm a little biased ^^;;].

Ah, the "shocking" comment wasn't actually meant to be sarcastic. XD;; I usually like the modern stuff too - and I *really* loved Blackflag's modern stuff. So the way they're doing it this time does disappointment. But it'll interesting to see where they go from here since I think they mentioned they're going to put a little more focus on making the modern story stronger?

Arno is adorable! He really is best described as a "Big puppy" for a lot of the game, and he's one of two that I've like right off the bat. Though I did start really liking the rest once I started focusing more on them than on fangirling the history. I'll admit I'm not the biggest Edward fan either. He was okay when reacting to stuff he cared about but there wasn't a whole lot of that until the end of the game so I spent a lot of time rolling my eyes at him.

I've always kind of wondered, which game is your favorite? If I may ask, that is.

Haha, I've seen the same thing happen to my mom. Maybe the cake wasn't cool enough? Or baked too long? I don't know much about baking, tbh, and when I do frosting it turns out awfully messy but generally okay.

So there's no ship stuff? I'm not surprised, but I loved the ship segments of Black Flag. Not so much AC3 because the controls felt a bit off but I thought Black Flag did a good job of refining them. (Also, being able to sail made the world feel so massive and exciting! And the shanties were amazing, but hey, we all have our preferences.)

Ooo, so that WASN'T sarcasm...oops! Haha, I like the modern day storyline too, and though I missed the hell out of Desmond (and company) in BF, I did find the changes unsettling in a way that was perfect for the story. (The gameplay segments in some of the Desmond sections were so good.) I hope Ubisoft doesn't listen too much to the haters and works on those sections. (Some people want them gone for good. That's half the story, guys!)

I'm glad to hear you like Arno right away, because while I found Black Flag to be wonderful gameplay wise, Edward lessened my enjoyment a bit. Liking the MC is an important part of the experience.

Of course you can ask! Though this isn't an easy question for me.

As far as gameplay goes, I enjoyed how challenging the assassinations were in AC1. The later games definitely have more cinematic flair to them, and while I LOVE that (it's so fun to play), there is something more satisfying for me in completing a contract in the first game. It isn't set up quite so pretty for you, you know? Then again, I actually found the sailing and ship battles in Black Flag to be well executed and addicting, so I spent a lot of time just sailing around, upgrading my ship. The gameplay was great in that game too. AC3 was a little more difficult for me, but I still enjoyed it. AC2 (and related games) were a fantastic mix. (And the assassin tombs were excellent.)

Storywise I think AC2 (and Brotherhood and Revelations) were my favorites because they told a longer, more polished story and we had so much more time to spend with Ezio. That being said, I adore Connor and find him to be vastly underrated, and his story really touched me so although the game isn't perfect, I have a special soft spot for AC3. After that, I enjoy Altair much more as a protagonist then Edward, so although Black Flag is more fun to play in many respects, AC1 had a great, self-contained story that I think I enjoy more than BF.

Though honestly, all the games have a wonderful supporting cast. I adored Malik, Leonardo, Yusuf, Achilles (and all the members of the homestead), and Mary and Anne and Blackbeard. I almost have a hard time choosing favorite games just because I love so many of the characters so deeply.

/that's enough ranting for today, self. simmer down

Do you have a favorite?

Maybe!

The shanties were pretty close to the only part I enjoyed - but I've never really enjoyed naval combat in games, so I'm a little biased. XD;; There isn't any ship stuff I've seen, but I'd be pretty surprised if there was seeing as the majority of the game takes place in Paris. So I'm not sure how they even could fit sailing in there without it being completely out of place. I mean, there might be something late game, since I think that deals with Napoleon? Or maybe in the free DLC, but otherwise it's not there.

Yeeeah, I probably should have worded it differently so it was a little more clear. Sorry about that. Yeah, I was pretty upset about Desmond dying since I'd gotten pretty attached to him by the end. Though, I'll admit I kind of rolled my eyes a bit a Shaun's little rant about the Rev. War since it ignored some pretty major factors. BF's modern day was pretty interesting since it was also pretty cool to see what things were like for Abstergo employees that weren't in on the whole Templar Secret stuff and how the assassin's handled things when they weren't playing keep away with the templars.

The modern day stuff isn't so big in Unity which is a mixed blessing. On one hand it's seriously breaking the 4th wall in a way that's not fun [imo], but on the other hand...aside from a few forced scenes it's basically side missions that you can completely ignore if you don't like them, which means there's basically no story in them at all.

Ahhh, I don't know! It's hard to choose.

I guess, over all, I'd go with AC2 [and related games] because I liked Ezio right from the start, and his story was very well told. I'll admit that Altair's story struck home for me more than the rest and seeing his relationships with other people in the order change [and him change too, albeit not as obviously] was interesting, but he was so stoic for a lot of it that it took a second play through for me to get around to liking him.

Mechanics-wise I'd probably say AC3, simply because I love being able to run along trees, and...well. The King George DLC was a ton of fun! Connor../I didn't actually start liking until my second play through until I started to actually focus on him instead of the events going on around him that I noticed he was more nuanced than he seemed if you didn't focus on him specifically.

Blackflag...Well, it was okay. The story seemed a little on the weak side to me, and Edward was probably the MC I liked the least. The most interesting part for me was, like with it's modern stuff, was that we got our first real look at the Assassin's Order from the outside. Even Desmond in the first game was an assassin despite having run away from the order.

Unity's been fun and it's story been good so far. There's been a little bit of cross over with it, Rogue and some mentions of backstory for *why* the order was so weak in the colonies during AC3. There's also some templar-assassin stuff dealing with truces/alliances between the two groups and interactions between individuals in from one group of the other who get along [won't say more than that or it'd be spoilers.]

The supporting cast is always great! Malik was probably my favorite out of them - but only because he was fun to annoy.

tl;dr: The Ezio games since they seemed to have the strongest blend on polished story + solid mechanics.

I'm kind of curious to give Rogue a try once I can get on PC. I've heard some good things about it, you know? Plus it'd be the first game that's really from a templar point of view and I'm kind of curious about how that will effect the story. What do you think?

I didn't even remember where Unity was set tbh, so oops! Yea, I imagine there wouldn't be much sailing in Paris, lol... I don't think I've ever played another game where sailing was a major factor, and I honestly didn't expect much from it in Black Flag because I thought the execution of the ship controls in AC3 were pretty bad, but idk... I guess I found them to be refined enough that I dug them. Everyone's different! (I wish Ubisoft would do a pirate game outside of AssCreed. I know a lot of folks wanted one after Black Flag, and the people who don't like sailing wouldn't have to deal with it (like you did with Black Flag)

Hum, this fourth wall breaking you speak of intrigues me, because as I mentioned, I found that stuff pretty amusing in BF. (Looking at everyone's action figures on their desks and reading the info about the different Assassins games was a hoot.) Unity's modern day stuff does sound a bit disappointing, but not too different from what the series was already doing. (Most of BF's modern day stuff was optional too, aside some rather simple story stuff.)

We're both so predictable preferring AC2, lol. But I think there's a reason so many AssCreed fans favorite it; it was a solid couple of games and they kind of did everything right with it. Ever since then they've screwed up with something.

And as much as I enjoy Black Flag, it suffered for Edward not becoming an Assassin sooner. Why wait till almost the end of the game? He didn't feel as connected to the order as most everyone else, and hell, Connor didn't even HAVE an order. (Despite this I am almost okay with it simply because it gave us that fantastic scene where he hallucinates Mary telling him what a fuck up he is, because that was beautiful. Also the ending with the singing... Ugh, that got to me.)

Alliances? Huh. Man, Ubisoft sure does like money... (What with Rogue and Unity coming out around the same time.) On one hand twice the story/gameplay... On the other, twice the cash and time consumption.

I'll probably eventually get around to them both... Or at least watch them, I'll catch up some way, hopefully. I do think a game entirely from a Templars point of view would be interesting, and probably clear some things up. Haytham was VERY confusing for me because I started out liking him, and over the course of the game I ended up wanting to throttle him to death, lmao. He was the worst backseat driver and as ass to boot, but that dynamic was fun. All his templar buddies seemed so nice in the beginning.. But that changed. In a way I think I'd always be questioning everything as a templar, wondering what's real or not. I guess any time you only get one side of a story that's a concern, so seeing more of how they view the world and the Assassins would be enlightening!
