What drama at CA? What's going on?

I was going to ask the same. I don't really follow the fandom - I just watch the videos. Mostly the nostalgic stuff, which there's been considerably less of lately.

Yeah, blip won't work for me anymore so I haven't seen anything from CA since either October or early November (there were still pumpkin beer posts). So before the new site. I mostly miss Kyle and Todd (the year-end lists!!).

I noticed Doug's stuff is running through Youtube now. I can't remember if Todd or Kyle (who are also my favourites!!) are as well or if they're still on Blip, but it might be worth checking.

Phelous, Lupa, Andrew Dickman, Kyle and Lindsay all left the site about a month ago, some with more drama than others. Since then, there has been a lot of commentary from other past site members, like JesuOtaku, LordKat, PushingUpRoses and Holly Brown, about the poor management and shady practices at the upper levels of CA.

It came out from a few producers (Obscurus Lupa kind of leading the information dump) that the CEO Mike Michaud and Rob Walker were being unprofessional and clearly favoring some producers over others (with Doug Walker being the most favored obviously), for example telling Lupa she couldn't advertise her Patreon, then letting Cinema Snob do just that, and then being rude when asked about that. Also that they never got compensated for anything in regards to the Anniversary movies or any part of the DVD sales.

I think there was more but I don't remember, but basically a lot of the producers have left the website in favor of their own.

NChick used to be my favorite producer on the site. Her commentary was funny, progressive without being ham-fisted, and her choice of topics was interesting. And I actually liked the occasional cameos from her friends, they let NChick bounce off of other people rather than just talking straight at the camera.

But yeah, idk what the fuck happened. They picked up their Fifty Shades parody and she did nothing but that for like a year??? And then moved onto other big multi-part projects. It's like she went from producing Nostalgia Chick video reviews and fun shit to self-indulgent bs that only a very limited viewership would ever care about. The only new NChick vid I've watched in the past year or two was the one where they ate "kid food" and made fun of it, and that one was okay, but it came off as so pretentious in some parts that it was honestly off-putting. "Haha Kraft Mac n Cheese? Spaghetti-Os? Only five-year-olds could possibly enjoy that! I took a single bite and I think I might just vomit in my mouth. Look how mature I am I only eat the wholest of grains. The sweetness of this single marshmallow peep is literally making my nose bleed."

I actually like the Maven of the Eventide because I like the actual reviews, and she seems to be doing more of that than NChick herself.

Naw, Doug really is a dick. At least he's a crappy boss, anyway. He was in the call where Lupa got fired for not replying them after fifteen minutes (After she told them she wouldn't be at the computer, no less)

Doug..is a bad writer. Look at Demo Reel, his magnum opus. He thought he was popular for being Doug Walker, but it was really NC. If he could get rid of everyone and just have it be the Doug Walker Channel, he would.

Haha, yeah. Naming it after himself was pretty...self explanatory. A big chunk of his views come from Snob, though. I think the reason he favors him is because he lives in Illinois (At least I think so, I know they live in some Springfield and it's not MA)

It's one of the reasons why left CA in favor of YouTubers like Markiplier, RetroBlasting and Evan MacIsaac. They're at least enjoyable than Doug nowadays.

I haven't seen Cinemassacre's work as of late, so I don't know how well James Rolfe is holding up now.

iirc, Rolfe's done some new AVGN since the movie (which imho wasn't that good, but I applaud him for the effort he put into it none the less), but most of the stuff I've seen has been him doing stuff as himself with Mike Mattei. I've heard rumors about stuff going on outside of Cinemassacre, but anything related to his family (especially his daughter) IMHO should be off-limits to speculation.

Yeah in the stuff he did more as 'himself' he sort of came across as a dick, maybe in that sort of innocent way that internet ego fuel will exacerbate. I couldn't stand anything he did with his brother because they both came across as pretty annoying.

God, as annoying as Doug can be, at least he's never reached Rob's level of Pretentious Douche-lord while the cameras were running.

I actually tend to like the reviews he does as himself more than the NC stuff. He's a very good reviewer.

That said, the CA site definitely seems to be in decline and I barely recognize any of the contributors these days. Though I do adore Shark Jumping, it is very fun!
