I dunno if I would've liked it better, but you do have a good point. However, most people do end up settling down*, and I guess the show wanted to portray that.

*I say this as a woman in her thirties who has never dated.

I haven't watched the show, and I'm a 40-something single (strongly inclined to remain single). I wouldn't have a problem with the show pairing MOST people off, as most people do. But if it really did pair "everyone" off, that does seem a bit weird to me.

Everyone except Jean-Raffio!

Though it always seemed possible to me that he had a thing going on with his sister so... :-/

I think if they were going for realism though, at least one of those couples would have gotten divorced (and since they were time traveling in the episode, we could have seen that.) It was pretty obvious they wanted to go for the super saccharine happy ending though so everyone got married and had kids etc etc.

I didn't really mind it because it makes sense in terms of that show, but I also understand Op's pov of it being ridiculous when everyone gets paired up. I'm also tired of tv/movies seeming to be incapable of writing someone happy to be single.

AYRT - Good point. Though that would've been depressing.

THIS.

... WTF, sorry for the duplicate response, not sure how that happened? I hit back and thought I lost the comment.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Why have you never dated?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-09 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Who did everyone end up with?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's not really "pair the spares" if three of the regulars ended up married to non-regulars. (Granted they did get three couples just out of regulars, so it's 2:1.) It's just accepting that your acquaintances don't stay in the same role you first found them (young and single).

It didn't really bother me that much in Parks but I understand the sentiment OP. I really hate when EVERY character is in a relationship or married by the end of a show. It really bothered me in Scrubs because they started giving characters like the Janitor a wife.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Having the janitor marry Lady was really jarring for me.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Why?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
IA anon. It also annoyed me that they all ended up with kids. Especially April and Andy.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I didn't like that April and Andy had kids because it felt like something April wouldn't have even considered if not for Andy.

But I've also never been a fan of them as a couple and it came off as another reason they're incompatible to me.

What annoyed me most about the babies thing was that every birth we saw in Parks & Rec was a boy. Ron's baby: it's a boy! Ann and Chris' baby: it's a boy! April's baby: It's a boy! Wtf?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't think Donna and Joe had kids?

I agree in the general idea. It's just so weird when everyone is just...nearly paired up. Reminds me of when I was a kid and would go through the rote of all my toys pairing up and having 2 children. So...general, basic and unrealistic. Mostly odd.

Yeah I found the last season really heavy handed with the weddings and the babies.

Text: I would’ve liked this show better if it didn’t pair everyone off.

Sometimes people stay single and THAT’S OKAY.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 04:30 am (UTC)(link)

I only think Tom´s relationship was a "pair up the spare" case. The rest were in relationships before, so it felt natural.

By the way, I don´t know what people who complain about the happy ending were expecting from Parks and Rec. It´s a feel good show. It was always like that, Leslie (almost) always wins and everybody is happy. And that´s FINE, that´s what I love about this show. If I wanted realistic sad things I´d watch the news.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
This. And unlike some shows I've seen where they over-do the happy ending epilogue thing, this one didn't feel OTT for me. Like with Leslie, I enjoyed how it was implied she may have become president but was never directly made clear.
