I know fandom has always been kind of shit in how it treats it's fans, but damn. When the hell did fandom become this elitist snob club? Was it always there, just in the shadows? Or did something shift one day and I miss the meeting and subsequent memo?

In my own experience I think that has always been there. I don't feel like I'm "officially" in a fandom these days because I don't keep up or interact to the level you need to in order to be "official." Some people really do expect whatever your fandom is to be your life, I just get too easily distracted and like too many different things to be able to keep it up.

It kind of reminds me of friends who have told me about playing online games where people get MAD if they are gone like a day. In those games, you either have to be completely immersed in it or people will think you abandoned them. Fandom in general can be a little like that at times.

RE: The game thing.

It's why I find very casual guilds. If they raid, I find ones that have a few groups that take on the newbies so we can get gear. OR I just find the ones that will join LFG stuff so we can do raids and dungeons that way. I HATE the mindset that the game has to literally be like a second fucking job. Games are meant to be fun and to be played at your comfort, not someone else's.

It's why I hate the elitist crowds in WoW for shitting all over the Looking for Raid players. LFR in that game is the lowest tier of raiding in the game, designed for people who can only play a few times a week and can't dedicate 3-4 hours (or more) of their time to a whole raid.

I'm having this weird social anxiety thing about being in guilds. I suspect it's because I'm not a big fan of chat channels.

Think cliques of BNFs. It's always been there.
