I'm not even sure how to respond to this. On one hand, the character has been kind of a terrible stereotype (well, the Native American portrayal in general, if not specifically Tiger Lily) in all the story's incarnations. So maybe, best case scenario, having a white actor could erase the offensiveness inherent in the role? But that's a stretch, of course. There are practically zero roles ever for Native Americans, let alone pretty lead characters who are Native, and this one role where they could've changed stuff to make it be done right was tossed under the bus.

For what it's worth, if this is based on the musical (I don't remember) Tiger Lily is always a white blonde girl, just as Peter Pan is never actually played by a guy. None of it makes sense. No obligation to follow that offensive precedent though. Did they ever make an official statement on why they didn't cast a Native American?

I saw a live musical version of it and Tiger Lily was played by a Native American woman who was very beautiful to watch.

I did see one where she was played by a really beautiful African American actress with high cheekbones who looked somewhat Native American.
