CAn we stop with this insistence that the reviews were horribly harsh and critical and mean?

They were pretty bland reviews. Yeah, a lot of them talked about not getting or liking something, and a lot of them nitpicked grammar, especially when they didn't know the canon well enough to talk about anything else. But they were a long, long way from the rage-y flames people keep painting them as. Mostly they all fell into about what you'd expect from assigned critique: "I liked X. Y needed work. I think your Z is good."

The one I read was really nitpicky and kind of annoying, but not overly harsh. I would kind of be irritated if I got it, thought, because like I said, I don't care that my writing isn't perfect-- I write for fun. I do like concrit, but only solicited.

"Kind of annoying" is really the worst that can be said about them. I see people in this thread calling them "harsh flames" and "tearing apart" and I'm just like, did we read the same comments??!

Agreed. Aside from the troll one that I saw, the initial reviews were politely stated, and included constructive criticism (which is probably the flashpoint), but the criticism was mild, and the author's reaction was over the top.
