I wouldn't say that fandom is necessarily 'organized' but there are definitely cliques within fandoms. And yeah, I can feel you on feeling like an outsider if the cliques are particularly tight and not welcoming to other people. But if you just find other people that you click with within the fandom, then it shouldn't be a problem.

As for the whole issue with fanfic being read by 'outsiders'... It's on the internet for anyone to read. That's kind of part of the deal. If you only want certain people to read it, then don't post it publicly. Simple as that.
