Re: RIP Sir Pterry - Pratchett favourites
What a great guy.
But, we still have his books. Which ones are your favourites, everyone?
The Colour of Magic and Lords and Ladies, for me. And all of the Tiffany Aching books.

Re: RIP Sir Pterry - Pratchett favourites
Besides Night Watch though, Jingo.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)Fifth Elephant and Feet of Clay are great because they're really enjoyable as mysteries as well as fantasy comedy light humor books. And, I mean, Vimes is the best character, the Watch is the best group, they're just awesome books.
And Maskerade is great, I think, just because the collision between the Witches and Ankh-Morpork is so excellent.

Re: RIP Sir Pterry - Pratchett favourites
Or possibly The Science Of Discworld series.
The thing that I especially loved about that man was how committed he was to making scientific theory more accessible to laypeople. It was always a bit of a theme in his novels, but nowhere was it more evident than his Science Of series.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)It is the one he always said he was still working on. I suppose we may never read it now, but it will still always be my favorite because it represented hope.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)Only you can save mankind and Johnny and the Dead also stuck with me. Fist fell books without pictures that I chose to read, after having to read TD&W in english and falling in love.
It wasn't until I was in my teens when I discovered the discworld series, so my nostalgia sticks mostly to the other works.
One line that clings to the inside of my head when thinking of mortality is the line from Johnny and the dead:
"The living must remember. The dead must forget"

Re: RIP Sir Pterry - Pratchett favourites
Once upon a time my fool's hope was to write an actual musical version of it in the style of Les Miserables, and then send him a tape.

ETA: Apparently The Bromeliad was a favorite of Randall Munroe as well: http://xkcd.com/1498/
Re: RIP Sir Pterry - Pratchett favourites
Going Postal and Small Gods are my favorites to get new people into the series. And then I've always loved Jingo as well.

Non-Discworld would be Nation (of his solo work I've only read this, Strata, and the Truckers trilogy) and Good Omens.
Oh no, now I should check if Neil Gaiman said anything. And see all the tributes. And Rhianna's Twitter. Maybe then I'll cry.
But for now it's...I think it's a kind of gratitude <3
