Favorite Board Game

Why do you like it?

Sorry, mainly because it's fun to knock the other pieces as hard as you can when you land on them. Or Trouble, for the same reason. I want to expand my board game playing knowledge though.

I don't think I've ever met a board game I really really liked. But Pandemic was kind of neat in that it offered a lot of options for strategizing?

My problem with Pandemic is that you need to play it with a group of people who are similarly experienced. Otherwise one or two people take over the strategy planning while everyone else has to follow lead, or the experts are left in despair over everyone else fumbling it, lol.

Otherwise it really has lots of cool expansions with different strategy options.

I love Trivial Pursuit, but that's mostly because I'm really good at trivia games.

We play more party games now, like Taboo. I loved Taboo to death in high school and we'd play it on the bus all the time.

I like theme games like Lord of the Rings Monopoly or Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit. (Sadly, the latter is REALLY hard to find someone who's willing to play.)

I also really like Pandemic. (I know it doesn't count as a board game but my fave game is Killer Bunnies.)

The Game of Life because unlike Monopoly, it actually ends.

Typical night of playing Monopoly:

*Start of the game*
Player 1: Who wants to be banker?

Player 2: Do we go one round before being allowed to buy property?

Player 3: If I don't get Boardwalk and Park Place...

Player 4: How do the houses work again?

*30 minutes in*
Player 3: Damn it! How the hell do I keep landing on Kentucky Ave. with the hotel?!

Player 1: Cough up the cash, loser!

Player 2: If you give me Boardwalk, I'll give Player 1 the cash you owe.

Player 3: Never!!

*1 hour in*
Player 4: I'm tired of this game. Who wants my money and properties?

Stratego. I enjoy it because it's a quick-and-dirty strategy game that's a bit like chess but the hidden nature of the pieces guarantees a more even playing field. Also it opens itself up to a few house rules.

Cosmic Encounter! I love board games for strategy and getting together people and it's great for both. Competitive diplomacy is a big part of the game, so it brings people out who might not normally strive to win. Great replay value as well!

My favorite-favorite board games are Mayfair Games' Empire Builder/Crayon Rail Games. Here. My favorite of those is definitely either EuroRails or Russian Rails.

But of recent trendy games, I like Pandemic (especially with the On the Brink expansion options), and with friends over I'm glad to finally own my own copy of Dixit.

Oh man just one? Okay, hmmmmm.

Oh, wait if DnD counts as a board game then totally DnD. 3rd ed specifically as I didn't like 4th that much(haven't tried 5th yet though), I love the customisation and the classes, and I think I've played almost every class combo you can make by now. With the right group of people it's great fun and a wonderful way to spend a day.

Settler's of Cataan because it is awesome and fun. I also like Monopoly and Life mostly because you can get awesome, nerdy version of them. I actually collect Monopoly.

Betrayal at House on the Hill, definitely! All the different scenarios are so creative and interesting and fun, my friends and I have played so many times without it getting stale! Such a good atmosphere too.
Also, it's technically not a board game, but the card game Once Upon a Time is sooo fun and we've gotten so many dumb stories out of it

Clue (or Cluedo if you're across the pond). I love a good murder mystery, and growing up I had all those "Clue" junior novels where each chapter was a different case the main six had to solve. Turned out two of my college roommates did too; he still have Clue parties every so often now. :D

I love Clue! I remember playing it on the SNES first when I was a kid. LOL When I became an adult, someone bought me the actual board game, and I really got into it.

Harry Potter Clue, up until everyone picked up on my strategy and began using it too. T~T I was sooooo good at it! I swear ppl hide cards from me and they deny it!! Sorry, I get really competitive.

Currently, it's the The Office Trivia Game. My friends and I have watched that show on repeat for the past few years, so we have a lot of fun competing with each other.

Settlers of Catan (sp?)

Because I've played it twice and both times I won.

The Resistance - because it always makes me so ANGRY.

I have so many!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-13 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Scrabble because I like words, but like Upwords just a bit more because of the really clever moves people can make.

Sequence because it's relatively simple but uses both skill and strategy.

Yahtzee because it's a fun game of chance and much of the strategy is in choosing where to score and I like numbers and rolling dice.

The Game of Life because I like to imagine doing all that stuff and I usually end up pretty well.
