I don't know this fandom. What were people objecting to about the story?

The biggest objection I think was that it was a recovery fic and the MC's psychiatrist suggested a controlled meeting with the main character's main attacker from the game about a year or year and a half post-game. The main character kind of took it from there and started to make it less formal, lies to his psych, and develops romantic feelings. He constantly questions himself throughout.

and the author got death and rape threats? JFC. People can be so sickening.

Yeah, it was just so... ugh. She was always up front about not being a psychiatrist, obvs, and that this kind of relationship is incredibly problematic, but because she could really describe the main character's personal narration and trauma is what really resonated with people, and didn't seem to matter to the more violent commenters.

Even if there were problematic points in the fic, nothing would justify that kind of comment. :(
