I'm pretty pro-social justice, but even I stay away from the ableism/mental health sections, (despite having mental health issues myself) because everyone there is so incredibly picky and explosive. Not surpassed this happened tbh.

Huh, I'm the opposite. I've given up on all other areas of social justice because they're so full of hypocrites who don't give a damn about ableism (mental or physical).

I've a met a few decent people here and there, but the whole movement just bugs me on how no one actually pays attention to ACTUAL pressing ableist issues like the dangerous social stigma or poor medical care. All I ever see is "omg this one person said the word "stupid" and "crazy" in the same sentence!!!!11! that's an ableist slur omg how dare you?!?!?" And just ugh shut up already.

Gods, this. I understand where words can be microaggressions, but speaking as a legit crazy person (bipolar, anxiety, ADD), I could give two shits about people saying something's "crazy awesome", when there's so many more useful things that could be done. Not everyone can go out and be an advocate, true, but I've been personally helped a LOT by essays by people about how they manage their mental illness. There's one particular essay by a friend of mine who compares her bipolar disorder to lycanthropy, and the way that she wrote it is extremely well; having read that helped my fiancee SO much when she got her bipolar disorder. She said she probably would have been suicidal if she hadn't read it. So, it's not like you have to go to rallies or political functions or whatnot to make a difference.

And yes, yes, you can do both at once, but I'm talking about the people who just focus on words and don't bother with anything else. I also notice that it's not uncommon to see able-bodied/neurotypical people jumping on the "ableist words" bandwagon, and I've had them yell at me for calling myself crazy. I've seen one neurotypical person claim she was "triggered" by the use of crazy in a casual, joking, non-derogatory fashion. There's a line and some people have trampled way past it... and often, over neurodiverse and disabled people in the process.

Augh I know right, it's just so damn dumb. And I find it pretty offensive that neurotypical people apparently think we're so fragile and naive, we can't handle it if someone says "stupid" casually in a sentence. Like how insulting do you have to be. And of course, these same people are the ones who pledge themselves on being the best activists for ableism, you know, despite the fact that they never actually listen or pay attention to actual people with mental health issues. -__-
And every time I point this out, I either get yelled at or completely ignored. So I just don't even bother anymore.
