Can we just, in general, stop talking about Tumblr as a collective entity? Can we stop treating people who annoy us on tumblr as though they're representative of the site as a whole or of specific fandoms on tumblr? Can we try to be specific if there's people who are annoying us on there?

Because it really feels like we spend a lot of time just bitching about tumblr in really unproductive ways. And it feels like it just leads to inflamed, bitter infighting because no two peoples' experience of tumblr is identical.

So can we please try to knock that shit off? Thanks.

Except that every group tends to do this to every other group [tumblr, ironically, is particularly bad about that.] Stamping your feet at one group because you're annoyed by it isn't going to change that it's going to happen - and, frankly, there's plenty of reason to have the same "bug up your butt" happen to other people towards tumblr and they have as much right to vent about it here as you do.

I think it would probably be better to do it in a way that doesn't imply that everyone on tumblr, or everyone in a certain segment of tumblr, is shit

I don't think anyone thinks tumblr's all bad. Well, maybe some people, but I don't. it's definitely not for me but I do see how it works for some people.

I don't think anyone thinks it's all bad, but I think there's an unfortunate tendency for people to talk that way, and then people misunderstand them and get defensive, and then it's just a bad scene all around.

I'll stop bitching about Tumblr when Tumblr stops giving me reasons to bitch about it. I'll stop treating it like a hivemind when it stops acting like such a damn hivemind, which will be never, because that's how social media sites tend to function.

Also, "being specific about people who are annoying us" is the king of crappy ideas. If it's petty wank you're worried about, naming names is the fastest method to stir up shit.

If it's poor little Tumblr's feels~ you're worried about, then lol. Pretty much every website bitches about Tumblr. Tumblr bitches about Tumblr. It's the same for Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, 4Chan, Imgur, etc. Shockingly, you are not the first F!S user to bitch about other F!S users. Websites blow off steam by bitching about stupid crap, including themselves and each other. Welcome to the internet.

Pointless, bitter slapfights is how people given anonymity usually end up communicating. Most of us are working adults who have a lot daily stress we need to get out, and we probably end up taking most of it out on each other over petty crap.

But then it's over and we're moving on to the next thing, because the fight was stupid and no one really gave a shit in the long run.

See, if I get home from work, and I feel like bitching about a dumb blogging site, I can do that. If someone else decides they want to defend that dumb blogging site, they can do that. We'll bitch at each other for a few hours, which helps both of us to get out all that pent up anger we've had to hold in all day. Being anonymous gives us the privilege of being able to act like complete children and throw tantrums. It's nice.

I'm honestly fond of everyone on here, even the ones I've had swearing matches with, because they've helped me get out a lot of stress in the past. I love all of you rotten bastards. Even you, dethtoll! (Although I'd probably steal your dog, sorry.)

Again, I mostly feel the same way.

My concern is that these feelings are not universally shared, and I'd prefer not to worry about driving off posters that I like who don't happen to share those preferences

And I think you'll find that transferring our ire from tumblr as a generic and unsubstantial entity to naming and shaming specific users is not the way to go. It would shift FS from a generically grouchy community to a bitchy one with a poisonous atmosphere.
