People have such different views on what counts as ableism. Most new things I learn I understand 100% and do my best to respect people who have a different experience regarding physical and mental health.

But I'm still going to use words like stupid and idiot because let's face it, there's a fine line between being actually mentally challenged and straight-up refusing to use your head despite being able to.

Personally, I use the words stupid, idiot etc. because I wouldn't use them in connection with actually disabled people and never have.

Eh, maybe it's because I'm ESL, but I'm not completely on track what the official term is in this case. Is "mentally retarded" what you call a person like that? Because in my country, the preferred and PC terms keep changing all the time.

Because that's part of it - for me, retard is basically a slur that I wouldn't use for describing a "mentally retarded" person but could be used for someone who does/says really fucking stupid shit. Eh... not sure if I can explain it too well.
