You’re unhappy with the particular way a celebrity supports or is portrayed to support (note difference between actual manner and how they’re hailed/attacked by the mainstream/SJWs) an SJ cause? Fine!

You want to use this chance to rec people in the same field who aren’t just allies, but members of [group]? Please do!

But I don’t see what greater good comes from turning it into a fecking with-us-or against-us crusade, at the cost of cutting off allies (even potential “better” allies!) and actual [group] people who like or find strength in [people/thing] that has a positive but not 100% comprehensive and ideal message. Pick your battles.

bowling for soup was right about high school

S!B “Behold, the common warbling butthurt cis scum, displaying their internalised misogyny, racism, and heteronormativity to attract a mate.”
(or maybe there really is something I’m missing about this)

No good comes from it. But many people on the internet only see in black and white.

"Perfect is the enemy of good."

(Anonymous) 2015-03-28 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never understood people who think we don't need allies for causes, we NEED allies. The more numbers a cause has the stronger it is.

No one is perfect and this bullying anyone who isn't needed to stop 3 years ago.

Plus, any time you're being mean to people, you're not the good guy. I'm not interested in hearing how you only do it to the Bad People. Being an asshole is not okay. Notice how that sentence doesn't end with a modifying clause?

God I'm bored with SJ wank secrets

(Anonymous) 2015-03-28 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
YEEEEEES!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-28 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
make a secret about it!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-28 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
same.

it's just the same wank over and over again.

'i hate sjws it's political correctness gone mad'
'no you're wrong sjw is life'
'assorted racial slurs something something feminazi'
'die cis scum'
'arghblarhgh hitler godwin'

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
No it's not. Please leave your pseudo-progessive bubble and step into progressive reality where the work is being done.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
QED

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Very few people know that arghblarhgh hitler godwin was Mary Shelley's birth name.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-28 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
WTF is that background.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
We aren't against allies. We're against people who do racist, homophobic, misogynistic, or transphobic stuff all in the name of being an ally, and then get butthurt and angry when we try to correct them or ask them to stop. If I had a dollar for every time I told a straight ally, "no, the 'A' in lgbta stands for 'asexual' not 'ally.' " Only for them to get mad at me and threaten to no longer support us, I could buy Disneyworld.

Also this secret has been done to death.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
so you're against allies

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt is only against allies if you think that all allies are oblivious buffoons who do *ist stuff in the name of being an ally, attempt to blackmail queer people by offering and withholding their support based purely on how nice every individual queer person is to them, and insist that being an ally means they deserve a place in an acronym made up of oppressed identities

they're only against people who claim to be allies while doing things that are harmful to queer people.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Uh...no.
Please gain some reading comprehenion.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I think anon is against allies.

People definitely need to be called out when they do something wrong or hurtful, but I really feel that too many people are thin skinned about things (YES, I SAID THIN SKINNED.)

I can stand some jokes or off-color about my groups if they're done without venom. Sometimes I'll make those jokes because I see some shit from my people that needs to be made fun of.

Guys like Seth MacFarlane or Matt Stone and Trey Parker often put in some downright vulgar jokes but I know that, even when they get shit wrong, they have the spirit right. Their humor actually helps people to ask questions. Sometimes laughing at someone can lessen hatred or turn an "ew" into an "oh."

And then let's talk about Patricia Arquette's Oscar speech that backfired for no good reason because she didn't include everyone but the dreaded straight-white-cis-males. Why were people trying to pick her apart? THEY GAVE CANNON FODDER TO THE ENEMY.

This kind of shit is why I hate being a progressive these days, because we're becoming our own barrier to our goals of a better, more inclusive world.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
You're attributing a lot to their comment that just wasn't there.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
wait, there are A LOT of queer people who don't believe in /will mock the very idea of asexuality. There are also queer groups who don't have an opinion about asexuality, but prefer reading the "A" as "allies". You are not the representative of THE QUEER MOVEMENT because there is no such thing.

ALso, I'd really like to see an example of someone doing all kinds of 'ist stuff in the name of being an ally. How does that even work? How can you be an ally to a cause and be in the enemy camp at the same time? I've seen more, say, misogyny from actual gay people than from heterosexual men in the ally camp.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
what's even your point w/that first paragraph? the classification of asexuality is an intra-community issue. if a queer person wants to read the "A" as "allies" then that's their business, but it's not up to straight cis people to decide what counts as queer. if a straight ally has such strong opinions about the A standing for allies that they get angry at you for suggesting that it instead stands for asexuality, so angry that they'll threaten to permanently withdraw their support for THE QUEER MOVEMENT, then they're probably not a very good ally.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
but if a queer person "tells" a straight ally that "a is for asexual, not for allies" and that straight ally has actually heard another queer person tell them differently, I think it's pretty okay for them to disagree based on experience, because at this point all the queer person is doing is assume one of many positions of a heterogenous movement, while (deliberately or not) ignoring all the other positions as someone claiming to present the movement.
Getting butthurt I also kinda understand. Suddenly being told "no, this is actually not about you" when they'd started to identify with the movement (which allies do, in any movement, if you want it or not) is kinda hard on just about anyone. Especially if someone told them otherwise, previously.

No, that doesn't justify their being in asshole in the cases anon claims to have seen so many of. I can totally see anon being an asshole in their own right, though, so maybe all these cases are based in mutual assholery.

Now I kind of want an Attenborough-style nature documentary as done by SJWs...
