And yeah, the whole "expose yourself to salt water to increase tolerance to salt water" thing struck me as kinda dodgy even before OP noted that it's been debunked.

I remember seeing that somewhere as well. I guess the thinking was "the water part of the sea water will be absorbed through your intestinal wall but the salt won't" ... except that chemically I believe your blood would try to absorb enough salt to equalize salinity between itself and the sea water. Which kinda defeats the purpose.
