Another name thread

What's the best or funniest or weirdest name you've ever heard? Person or animal or anything.

No celebrities though. We all know those.

I knew a girl who was pregnant with a boy who swore up and down she was going to name him Corduroy. Because when he was a teenager being named Corduroy would get him lots of girls. Not kidding, this was her reasoning.

I lost touch with her before she had the baby, so I don't know if she actually named him that or not.

Zebulon Montgomery Pike.

He was an officer in the U.S. Army for whom Pike's Peak in Colorado is named. And his name was Zebulon. It's probably biblical, but it sounds like an alien character in a sci-fi movie.

I also love Lord Kelvin's title because it sounds like the name of a Star Wars villain.

I went to school (sorta, he was a year ahead of me) with a boy named, I swear to god, Steely Cox. His parents were horrible.

I had a doctor named Elfgard Schüttrumpf-Asmus. Elfgard is really really old-fashioned in Germany, and the combination with the surname sounds really cold and hard to German ears.

Some poor bugger occasionally stops by where I work- his first name is Steamboat. And no, I'm not kidding, and it's not a nickname.

I have some step relatives whose last name is a homonym for "Golly" (I don't know how to spell it, and I probably shouldn't try). They have a son named Oliver.

My mom worked with someone named Aleki Dik. (I'm not sure of the spelling but it's pronounced A Leaky Dick.)

It's less the name itself is funny than the story behind it is funny:

I went to college with a guy with a somewhat unusual last name. Eventually a friend of mine actually asked him what was up with that, and so he told us the story behind it. His mother divorced his father when he was very young (5 or so), and being something of a new-age feminist, she told him that they were both going to be changing their last names to something completely new, and it was up to him to pick a good name.

So, that's the story of Steven* Ravenwolf.

(*first name has been changed to protect the innocent. Last name is 100% accurate).

I work as a security monitor in my dorm swiping in people's cards and one time I swiped in a girl whose last name was Porn.
That poor girl.

A friend of mine is a retired teacher, she used to teach grade 5 at an inner city school in Philly. Most of her students were African American, and there were lots of unusual to my ears names. But the one that stood out and is the only one I remember years later? A girl named Tueasy (too easy).

And there was a school board in our province who once had the honour of having a superintendent with the last name of Dray. He got his doctorate whilst working for them. Thus, he was, I kid you not, Dr. Dray.

My parents had a corner store when I was a teen and one night I was renting a movie to a guy. I had to get his ID--first name Blue, middle name Sky (my best friend remembers him, too--though we didn't meet til many years after this incident). His parents might've been hippies when he was born, but by the time he started coming into our store, they belonged to one of the local splinter hardline Christian churches.

I once heard a woman introduce herself as "Misty Glass".

My first thought was that that was a "stripper name". My second thought was that her parents thought it was "clever" and didn't consider the teasing that would ensue. But I guess she was ok with it, so it's not my place to judge.

Mr Spankie and Mr Orifice. Two names I came across during two separate jobs.

I used to work as a medical transcriptionist. The GPs who were my bosses routinely referred patients to a urologist named Hugh M. Dick.

I never knew what the M stood for, but one of the techs speculated that it stood for Mungus.

One of the patients was called Jaron Bane, which always sounded like a name for a 17th century New England slave trader--or at any rate, a villain of some sort. And then there was a whole family with the surname of Fennema. Which I understand is a perfectly respectable Dutch name, but I can guess what the kids' classmates called them.

In 9th grade, there was a guy in my class named Lancelot. I thought that was pretty cool, I never expected anyone to name their kid that.

My mom was TA'ing Western Civ when she was pregnant with my sister. She was teaching the Epic of Gilgamesh and her students were complaining about the names. So my mom is all, "No, these are great names! I should totally call this kid Enkidu. Enkidu [Lastname]!"

A year later, she's walking on campus and one of her former students comes running up to her going, "Laura! Laura! Did you name your baby Enkidu?!" :D (She didn't.)

Working in healthcare you see so many strange names...

Princess Carbon
Ivy Garden
Nimrod
Cookie

And for some reason I've seen so many 'William Williams' type names, which baffles me, since it's still rare for a man to take his wife's last name, so that means their parents likely gave them a first name identical to their last name for whatever reason...

Due to me living in a multicultural neighborhood, I've heard so many strange names that I really don't care for it much at all. In fact, I can't remember the last I've heard a truly weird name.

And just to illustrate, some of the names I've heard over the years, most of which was in school:

Chloe Pang
Rishantini
Fazliana
Edward Jayden
Jeslina
Ian Fiqri
Shanmugam

Try figuring out which name belongs to which ethnic/racial group! Go on.

Names that sound like penises that I have come across recently:

P. Nass
Wing Wong
G. Cockburn
Harry Dingle

All 100% real. Wing Wong especially gave me a chuckle.
