fs what would you have been named if you were the opposite sex?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-28 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Or what were the same sex alternative names your parents had for you.

Had I been a boy, they would have named me Lars. A rather normal, common name in Germany. The same sex alternative was Desirée. Not a common girl's name in Germany, and I'm glad they didn't chose that one. Although it wouldn't have mattered in the end, I legally changed my name about twelve years ago.

My parents thought I was going to be a boy, and chose the name Andrew.

I came out a girl, and so they named me Andrea. Not too imaginative. ;)

Alternative male names were my little bros (which I won't post because it's incredibly unique), Sebastian, or Alaric. Pretty lucky I ended up with as normal a name as I did.

If I was a girl the top choice was Victoria, which is a quality girls name so I think I'd have been happy with that, or Imogen which would have been awful.

If I were a boy, I would have been: Wolfgang (awesome), Beowulf (holy shit, awesome) ...or Adolf (omg, dad, what the fuck were you thinking?). My dad was not an idiot, he was a German national, and I have no idea what made him think it was a valid option.

Ciaran. The first boy my parents had was going to be Ciaran. They proceeded to have three girls instead. If we'd all been boys, I'm not sure if they'd have come up with two other names or just called us all Ciaran. My dad likes to joke that that's what he'd have done. "This is my son Ciaran, my other son Ciaran, and my youngest son Ciaran. We liked the name Ciaran."

My mom wanted Michael or David but my dad vetoed that because he had bad associations with people with those names. That's as far as the conversation got before they knew I was a girl.

Alternatively, he wanted to name me Tammy but my mom vetoed that.

Joshua apparently.

My parents don't really know since they had only decided on a girl's name but my mum usually says that they'd probably have picked between James or Micheal.

If I were a boy, I would have been named after my father (my little brother got that honor).

For my name, it was a choice between the top two girls' names in the county I was born in.

One I got, the other was Linda. I'm SO glad my Mom veto'd Linda. I like what I got much better.

If I'd been a boy, I would've been Robert. Mum didn't entertain any other alternatives for my first name. I was always going to be Kathryn. Primarily because that's the name she wanted to have.

I kinda dislike it myself and always shorten it.

My father wanted me to be named Nicolette, but my mother was very, very against it. I just checked and there are literally 3 or less people named that in my country apparently so it would have been unique at least. My mother wanted me to be named Julie, which became my sister's name a year later.

Neither of them remember what they wanted to call me if I were a boy, despite them not checking what sex I was before I was born, so I assume they discussed it at least.

Anthony Angelo. Even worse than my actual name, which accidentally turned out to be that of one of my least favorite Catholic saints.

I would have been Aaron. My parents wound up having three girls and never got the chance to use it. I'm not sure what I would have been if one of my sisters had been a boy (Aaron) and then I were also a boy. Frank, possibly. I like Aaron better.

I was supposed to be Joshua. Almost literally. I was born and they went, "Oh fuck. It's a girl. What the fuck. We thought we were having a boy. WE DON'T HAVE A NAME PICKED OUT AHHH!"

It was kind of funny when they told me that. XD

I'm not sure what name I would have had if I was a boy (though my brother got Brian, which isn't too bad), but I was close to being Mara. Which I think I would have loved, because Mara Jade is awesome. As it is, I have a three-letter, two-syllable name that you can't nickname at all.

Probably Nathaniel, or Nicholas.

If I'd been a boy my name would've been Forrest Blue. I'm really glad I wasn't born a boy.

My name would have been Mark Anthony if I was born a boy. I like it a lot, actually.

Had I been a boy, I would have been named Jesse. Had my mother named me, I would have been named Heidi. For as much as I used to hate my name, I'm infinitely more glad my mother did not name me.

Joshua *discontent noises*

Since it turned out I was a girl I got a different, unique biblical name instead. Sigh.
