I don't mind straight cis people calling themselves "allies." When we live in a world where not being a bigot is an assumed trait of anyone worthy of being considered a decent human being, then y'all can start complaining. Meanwhile, I'd rather hear it from the lovely people I work with that they would be just as lovely to me if they knew I was into girls.

Who the fuck thinks it is bad? Without allies, most societal changes don't occur. You need the people in power to want to vote for you or change doesn't happen.

Tumblr. People who think calling yourself an ally means "Look at me, make your cause about me, give me cookies for being a decent human being!!!!"

Some people think this is bad because there are some "allies" out there, you can find them on tumblr, who are allies just for the special snowflake status. As in, they want their names in the LGBTQ banner as in Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transsexuals, Queers AND Allies or LGBTQA. Something they can show to other people that they are super-duper in the movement and above regular straight cis people.

But that's a tumblr thing and not really a real life thing. So, you can just about ignore it.

I think allies is a useless divisive term.

Either you support the correct beliefs or you don't.

Plenty of homophobic gays guys, or disabled people with terrible incorrect opinions. And it represents the way that you personal experience is considered something to crush any disagreeing opinions rather then anecdote.
