"if Snape hadn't put both of them through the wringer they wouldn't have been tough enough to survive Voldemort's return"

WTF kind of logic is this?

It's okay to abuse children to toughen them up now?

And OF COURSE Harry disagreed with me -- that was the entire point I was making. That I found it completely unbelievable.

That Harry could think better of Snape and no longer hate him, even respect him a bit? Yes, I could believe that.

That he would name his child after him? Fuck no.

I don't even hate Snape. I don't think he was evil. But I don't think he was this big tragic hero either. He was an asshole who tried to do good and did do some good, but he was still an asshole.

And, yeah, I have a lot of issues with Dumbledore too.

You obviously have limited ability to understand context.
It's okay to abuse children to toughen them up now?

If you are expecting them to grow up to live in a warzone, or live in a system which will smack the living daylights out of them if they do not learn to react in certain ways and have ability to actually change either of those things, fuck yes. Thanks to Snape, they've got their whole lives ahead of them to recover from Snape. Something that might not have been an option if they hadn't received a short, sharp, correction and kick up the pants. Harry was obviously smarter than you; it goes without saying that so was JK Rowling too.

Its true. Across America black parents are being really restrictive on their kids about where they can go and who they can talk to. Sometimes having to use some pretty tough love and physical correction, but it is probably going to stop them getting killed by a white cop. You do what you have to, and if it seems harsh to the people with privilege then that is just how it has gotta be. Our world is a very harsh one that we have to be harsh on our children to get them for surviving in it.

Funny, my white parents also practiced pretty tough love and physical correction and there's no risk of me getting killed by a white cop. In fact, that is the standard way of raising kids in my culture. Hmmm, what could they possibly be so generously protecting us from? Or maybe... jsut maybe... it's just an excuse?

"If you are expecting them to grow up to live in a warzone, or live in a system which will smack the living daylights out of them if they do not learn to react in certain ways and have ability to actually change either of those things, fuck yes."

No, it actually doesn't help, asshole.

My grandmother lived through WWII. You know what got her through that? Her family's love and support. Not being abused when she was literally sick and starving half the time.

Fuck off.

Snape abusing them did NOTHING to help. It was just him being a piece of shit.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure she did. I love how you anons always have these cute little stories that so exactly fit the circumstances. Was your grandmother in occupied Poland, go on, say she was, go on, go on. She was encouraged to mouth off to the Oberführer, despite being a dirty Jew and he was oh so forgiving to her and barely gassed her at all, right? 'Cause that is what Hermione is, she is a dirty smart-mouthed Jew who is going to have to grow up in an anti-semitic society even if she manages to avoid being caught in the occupation. And Neville, well Neville is the child of Charles De Gaulle in this analogy.

No, dipshit, my grandmother was in France.

But seriously, fuck you, you ignorant shit.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, keep going.

You sound insanely sheltered and pretty obliviously privileged tbh

(Anonymous) 2015-03-30 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
You sound like you're justifying child abuse, tbh.

I watched my sister be verbally abused by our father enough, thanks. And some of the shit our neighbors pulled certainly didn't make me "stronger." It was just traumatizing. Although according you I should probably be grateful to them.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-30 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yet more personal details which are tailormade for the point you want to make. That does not really boost your credibility.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-30 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
See, it's funny that you seem to think that no one could have life experience such as mine and disagree with your opinion. I wonder why that is. But go ahead and don't believe -- I just think it's amusing that you're attacking my "credibility" when we're ANONYMOUSLY posting. As though your ad hominem attacks somehow refute my points. Or make YOUR contention that, "Snape being a bully and all around asshole to Harry and friends made them stronger" any less shit.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-30 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
da

There's something wrong with you.

This.
