(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)WTF kind of logic is this?
It's okay to abuse children to toughen them up now?
And OF COURSE Harry disagreed with me -- that was the entire point I was making. That I found it completely unbelievable.
That Harry could think better of Snape and no longer hate him, even respect him a bit? Yes, I could believe that.
That he would name his child after him? Fuck no.
I don't even hate Snape. I don't think he was evil. But I don't think he was this big tragic hero either. He was an asshole who tried to do good and did do some good, but he was still an asshole.
And, yeah, I have a lot of issues with Dumbledore too.

If you are expecting them to grow up to live in a warzone, or live in a system which will smack the living daylights out of them if they do not learn to react in certain ways and have ability to actually change either of those things, fuck yes. Thanks to Snape, they've got their whole lives ahead of them to recover from Snape. Something that might not have been an option if they hadn't received a short, sharp, correction and kick up the pants. Harry was obviously smarter than you; it goes without saying that so was JK Rowling too.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)No, it actually doesn't help, asshole.
My grandmother lived through WWII. You know what got her through that? Her family's love and support. Not being abused when she was literally sick and starving half the time.
Fuck off.
Snape abusing them did NOTHING to help. It was just him being a piece of shit.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-30 12:22 am (UTC)(link)I watched my sister be verbally abused by our father enough, thanks. And some of the shit our neighbors pulled certainly didn't make me "stronger." It was just traumatizing. Although according you I should probably be grateful to them.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-29 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)He didn't bully Hermione, Nevile and Harry "for the greater good" or even for "their own sake", but because he is a bitter bully.
And I don't remember Dumbledore "encouraging" Snape to be a shit to the students. No doing anything to stop him, yes, but encouraging? No.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-30 04:36 am (UTC)(link)Oh my God. Just no. Stop trying to justify Snape's shittiness toward children. He didn't do it for a purpose, he did it because he's a shit and a bully who can't get over the fact that he was bullied and is therefore a huge hypocrite.
I mean, I love reading Snape, he's a fascinating character, but he's an asshole to his students. And no, Dumbles did not "encourage" Snape to be a piece of shit to children. *eyeroll* Harry's naming his son after Snape was all about Harry's capacity for forgiveness and his need to move on, and not really about Snape.
