(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 04:06 am (UTC)(link)the whole thing about joe is one thing - that's her father and while i don't really think barry keeping his identity a secret would have anything to do with her protection, i think there's a different reason.
in the beginning of the season, it's shown that barry wanted to confess but she let him down gently. not only that, iris has a lot more going on for her than just barry and her dad. she's in school, she's at work, she's dating eddie. she doesn't really need that extra bullshit about worrying about barry and his safety (especially since they grew up together especially when his mom died and dad was arrested).
from this point of view, barry doesn't have a reason to tell her - she's living her own life and he doesn't want her to worry about him, stop him, or get involved in this stuff (which is why he's trying to stop her from blogging about "the streak"). prior to the lighting strike, he was already overly obsessed with his parents' case - and he already doesn't tell her about this either. would you consider that sexist?
maybe it does come off as sexist, especially from joe's point of view. it's understandable that as a father, he's going to be protective. as a cop, he's going to be even more so.
but with just barry, there's really no reason to tell her. i like how they set this up to where iris has her own life and other things going for her other than just the love interest. that is a step in the right direction, in all honesty.
