(Anonymous) 2015-04-04 04:12 am (UTC)(link)Text: I’ve really disliked Joe from day one because of him demanding Barry keep being the Flash secret from Iris for no actual reason.
I rolled my eyes when that happened, thinking by now we should be past the creepy old trope of superheroes lying to their love interests because the silly little girl must be lied to and treated like a child by all the men in her life for her own good.
I’ve only just caught up (it was airing a few weeks behind in my country) and delved into the fandom, which I expected to be up in arms but I haven’t seen one single indictment of this misogynistic douchebaggery.
I haven’t even seen anyone complain about it narratively which I can’t understand because it really is poor writing. They’ve just arbitrarily decided that we must accept Irish shouldn’t know because that’s ~the superhero way,~ even though Joe doesn’t fit the typical criteria of “character who is allowed to know a superhero’s identity.”
tl;dr: I think either Iris should have been let in at the start or Joe shouldn’t have been and it bugs me.
