I respect your thoughtfulness in not coming out with an outright spoiler. That was a big plot twist and a lot of people won't have seen it yet.

Floki wasn't my favorite character, and still isn't, but the way they handled that storyline was believable for him. Much more believeable than him being a shipwright who in the first series somehow made a whole Viking ship on his own.

There have been some episodes where the character continuity was much more wobbly, but this time it was set up well. This event didn't feel like it was hastily tacked on, but instead integral to this season.

It was such a huge spoiler for the show in its entirety. I figured out it was going to happen before the episode aired (the way the media was promoting it, certain things that were going to happen after the show aired, etc), but I didn't mind how it was executed.

I do like the other character involved, though.

The other character involved is my outright favorite from the series. Their story arc this season has been really complex and interesting, finally fulfilling what they were teasing us about them in season one.

I agree. To me Floki has been the most in character character for this show. He is a devout. He has always viewed Christians as dangerous heretics that could only bring misfortune. I am surprised he didn't do what he did sooner. Probably only because he was afraid of Ragnar. What happened England was the final straw that broke the camel's back. If he had not done something, I would have been shocked.

Man, it's hard to write something as spoilerific as that without trying to be spoilery.

That's actually why I don't like him (among other things about this show). The Norse didn't view Christians as heretics. They just viewed them as worshiping a different god, and some of them, pre-conversion, even started worshiping Jesus right alongside the Norse gods. Like other polytheists, they didn't see as big a conflict between different belief systems as monotheists tend to see.

It's just another thing this show gets very, very wrong.

How can you know what every one of "the Norse" thought? They were all individuals and tbh it feels as if you are a bit invested in the idea that as pagans they were all laissez faire and laid back in contrast to those nasty evangelising-at-point-of-sword Christians - and in fact we do know that many "Christians" were very syncretistic in belief and practice. You only have to go to Cornwall or the Peak District to see all the "holy wells" *cough*paganspringgoddesssites*cough*
