I'm guessing OP means having the top button buttoned. Which I totally agree with. It is nice to even get a tiny bit of skin since male clothing tends to not be very revealing.

Top button and no tie is usually a faux pas. Do up the top button if you're wearing a tie, don't if you're not.

It is also very uncomfortable if you are a fatty fat fat-fat, because it gives men a muffin neck effect. I'm hoping it really does catch on for that alone. Give the men a taste of having to wear something that causes them to almost pass out everyday and make them incredibly uncomfortable about a very visual illustration of an imperfect body and weight.

It's a faux pas and it's actively hideous. It creates and frames this blank space filled only with repression and regret.

Text: If THIS GUY and THIS GUY succeed in making THIS fashionable I will BURN SHIT DOWN

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-04-12 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha.
I see people dressed like this on the streets all the time.

I'd also like to mention that the brief resurgence of bowties was not due to the Eleven wearing one.

Where do you live? I want to live there.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, me too!

Third Doctor! :D :D :D

(Though I don't see that his outfit has much in common with either Sherlock or John.)

Master \0/

He's here to represent Doctors who didn't set a new fashion trend.)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, the "air tie" look, as the Men in Blazers call it.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
An Italian actor did this for a Netflix thing I didn't know it was such a faux paux.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-13 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on the country, I reckon

(Anonymous) 2015-04-13 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
More like it depends on how anal retentive someone is about what other people wear.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Who fucking cares. Let them wear what they want.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-13 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
NEVER!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-14 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
No. It's such an easy thing to do. Either wear a tie or button that button. The third option is going without a collar but that can look weird too.

I will fashion crit until the day I die. Fashion is a choice and if you make poor choices, especially if you can afford to make poor choices, then I will call you OUT.

I kind of like it.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-12 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
For Elementary, anyway, since I don't watch Doctor Who. I like the symbolism of it - it adds a little stiff buttoned-upness without the formalness of a tie.

Isn't this already in (and maybe on the way out)? I see hipsters wearing their shirts that way a lot.
were_lemur: Seventh Doctor (white male) and Ace (white female) looking happy, text *cheer* (7th Doctor and Ace cheering)

[personal profile] were_lemur 2015-04-13 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
While I'm not particularly fond of it as a fashion trend, I think it suits (heh!) both characters very well.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-13 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Capaldi looks good in it. I doubt it'd cause a trend outside of you know... cosplay.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-13 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, now I know why I hate their fashion so much. I couldn't put my finger on it! :(
