A black woman shows up and she isn't a fat black woman. If she was a fat black woman, I bet someone will complain that she's not fat enough.

This is why I get sick of people who complain about representation or the lack of. They're never satisfied.

And before people start rating this as a troll, it's not. I'm mixed race and sick of representation complaints because nobody's happy. You want to be represented? Go to acting school and land a role.

to be fair, Ursula in the Disney classic is fat...so I can understand this complaint. It's an issue of accuracy.

yeah... OP isn't making something up to complain about. OP is just expressing that while it is nice to see progress in one aspect it is also kind of disheartening to compare it to a lack of progress in another apect.

Yeah, I thought the OP wasn't going for "She should be black AND fat for representation!" but rather "It's nice that she's black, but couldn't she also be fat the way Ursula is supposed to be?"

Disney's Ursula IS fat though. And while Once Upon a Time used to be loosely fairytale based, they are essentially just Disney based now.

I mean Ursula looks really strange when standing right next to her is a Cruella who looks like the animated movie Cruella and a Maleficent who was specifically given a new wardrobe to look like the movie.

I don't really think it's odd for OP to think it's odd that Ursula looks drastically different then her animated counterpart. She really stands out in that way.

I hope this doesn't come across as assholish, but...why would you cast a skinny Ursula? Part of her evil charm is her design in The Little Mermaid, if you ask me...

(I'm NOT saying evil because fat, I'm just specifically saying it's highly inaccurate to her original design)

This. Her design in the movie is amazing and makes such an impact, especially when she unfurls the tentacles.

From what I have googled, this Ursula isn't even the "real" Ursula from TLM; that role was taken over by Regina, mimicking an ancient Sea Goddess (whom this Ursula was named after.)

I don't know if that makes it better or worse tbh. :/

I don't think you're coming across as assholish.

I'm a fat...ish woman, and rewatching TLM as an adult, Ursula made a big impact on me. It was kind of... empowering... seeing this fat lady be so confident and striking and unashamed and PRESENT with her asppearance. Villain or not, Ursula looks darn impressive. Seeing that definitely played into my process of ceasing to view the deviations-from-the-standard in my appearance as flaws, and beginning to see myself as an interesting character design.

Disney's Ursula was awesome, I'd wish for them to make the actor look the same. If I'd watched this series, that is. I mean, Cruella looks almost exactly like she does in the cartoon.

The actress they picked probably counts as fat by Hollywood standards. Just going by that pic anyway.

Yeah I don't think OP is complaining about nothing? Ursula IS fat. Its a pretty integral part of her character design. She was based off of Divine after all.

The bitchen fabulous drag queen on the right is using her weirdly textured butt tentacles to strangle/entrap one of the show's approximately 8000 Interchangeable Pale White Ladies With Shortish Dark Hair.

Also for some reason everything is green.

I imagine one of the show's approximately 8000 Interchangeable White Dudes With Sandy Blondish Hair showed up to save the day. I'm hoping with a lip synch danceoff.
