I have questions for you OP. Many many questions.

1. Who taught you this?

2. Why do you do this?

3. Are you spreadsheet!anon?

Not OP

If their job is running background checks they may know it from there - that's how I learned to do it.

Idk about why they would though - seems pretty creepy to me.

OK, but I thought "background checks" were basically (in order of importance/relevance), criminal record, history of employment, and history of residence. Not sure why the exact type of fanfic they write, or which cons they attended, would be relevant to that.

Where does the OP specifically mention cons, or any of the rest of that? It's possible for people have a link between their fandom stuff and RL stuff that you can find it - in fact, unless someone specifically avoids it, it's probably just going to take some digging to do it particularly given the amount of information a lot of people will let slip online.

Also - learning to do something from somewhere =/= using it like that all the time. [And no, before the assumption is made, I have never done it outside of work because...well. It's creepy as fuck.]

1) Teachers, among others. Without being too specific, it's useful in the job description.

2) Force of habit? Because I can, I guess.

3) No way, nowhere near that organized.

Next question: How old are you? Age range is acceptable, if you don't want to give exact age. What I'm trying to get at is, did you learn this in some high school CompSci class just recently, or are you a functional adult, and this is literally in your job description?

I'm an adult, I'd say above F!S average age. Whether I'm functional is up for debate.

I'm not currently performing the job I was trained for, but I learned this in college, not high school, and it's not literally in the job description but it can help in some cases.

It's also not illegal or anything, there are just a lot of ways to track down people legally.
