Exercise headaches

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone get post-exercise headaches? If I do cardio and sweat a lot, not right away but maybe an hour after the workout, I suddenly get an intense headache. I've been told to "drink more water" but I drink a lot of water (very possibly more than the average person). I don't drink anything else except a cup of coffee in the morning, then I'm tossing it back all day. Anyone had this, and was it due to anything other than dehydration?

Could be a sugar crash, have you checked with a Doctor? It can be a symptom of a few things.

Is it anything involving the muscles around your neck? Sometimes if I don't stretch them properly after I get headaches.

Re: Exercise headaches

Drinking water may not be enough after exercising, so you could try also eating something small that contains sodium or drink a sport drink intermediately after exercising.

Over-exercising could also be the issue, but it may also be the symptom of something else, so if you can consult with a doctor.

Migraines can be triggered by exercise/strenuous activity I believe, so that might be something worth checking out with your doctor.

have you tried drinking sports drinks instead of water? Intense headaches like that are usually a sign of not having enough electrolytes.

I really want a cheerleader to help me keep going but I can't find any one. :(

My favorite method of exercise is aquatic exercise... but I'm trans, and don't live near any swimable bodies of water, so that kinda sucks.

There's a discount gym opening in the same complex I work at though... going to give it a try when it does.

Surely there are ways to get around the obvious issues? Like wearing swim clothes to the gym so you don't have to change?

I juuuust started Mixed Martial Arts class. I did some martial arts in high school and college, but I'm 25 now so it's been awhile. I found a place and went to the class, loved it, but shit that was more intense than probably any martial art course I've ever done. Plus I was the only woman in a class of guys, so I was determined to do everything they did (including lifting people up)...

felt awesome after the class, if winded.

Today, I woke up and all day I've been painfully, robot-like stiff. I can't even walk quickly, or bend myself. argh.

Want to go again next week but seriously need to do stretches or something.

Stretches do nothing for DOMS. Hot and cold compresses and massage are supposed to be somewhat effective, though.

I like running in races but my love for spinning is getting higher. I know spinning is a great cross-functional exercise but I don't like cycling outside (pedestrians, traffic, etc). So conflicted!

I've just started doing one of the programs on here, which seems like a really good free resource for free fitness stuff. http://darebee.com/

Well I hate using the bikes, so I'm glad I can switch that out for daily dog-incentived walks

I really like all the weight work? Something awesome about the burn across my shoulders and arms and how they bulk up after I finish my routine.

My brag is I'm no longer overweight :P Still need to tone up, but I've lost the 10kg I gained while working that horrible call centre job. Now I'm focussing on general fitness and health.

Secret reasons is a) want to look hot like Korra and b) imaginary zombie invasion let me survive a week at least

lol I'm so out of shape right now it's not even funny, but at least I'm hitting the time of year where I usually start to get back on the wagon so I don't become a complete sack of shit.

I need a new exercise bike. My old one is crap. Myyyep.

Re: Exercise thread

(Anonymous) 2015-04-17 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
How to push myself? I'm currently taking a class once a week, but that's the only time I exercise, and I feel like I'd do so much better there (and I'm already doing well) if I worked out more. Even my doctor has told me to work out more. I mean to do so every morning, but it... never happens.

Also, should you work out the next day if you're sore? I think part of the problem is that often the next day I'm sore, so I don't work out, but then I miss a day... and another one... and another one...

Hospital cardio classes

[personal profile] siofrabunnies 2015-04-18 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Has anyone every taken an exercise class at a hospital? My local hosts classes that meet all the requirements I have: after my husband gets home from work, only six weeks or so, way cheaper than a gym, etc. But it's, well, at a hospital. We're in our twenties, and I don't want it to end up being a bunch of invalid seniors, because that's just not what we need. They have several pool cardio/strength classes and a boxing one, and I think we'd both enjoy, so long as we actually fit in.

Anyone have experience there?

Planet Fitness

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Has anyone on here had a membership to Planet Fitness?

Most of the hate I've seen is because they are anti gym "regulars" (swole, lunk head gym personas) and they don't have a large variety of workout items (weights). Oh and the pizza and candy thing, god does that seem to irritate people.

I'm not worried about lack of machines. I have a long ways to go before needing to do specialized machines to tone parts of me.

I'm mostly worried because I've heard they are weird about gym attire from what I've heard(?) And also if they hate "gym rats" do they monitor how long you've been there, and start saying stuff if you come in too often or stay too long? And the whole no grunting thing, do they really enforce that? If I work too hard, or sweat too much, or accidentally let any sounds of exertion out they will be all over me.

I think I read too many serious fitness peoples negative reviews and I'm looking for some normal people reviews.

Couch to half marathon? (well, almost)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-18 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
There's a half-marathon in my area that I'd like to try. I walk a lot (like, 8 to 10 km a day) but I don't do it very fast, and I've never been much of a runner (except in pursuit of the bus).

If you went from somewhat sedentary to running a 10K or half marathon in a matter of months, how long did it take you? How much did you train every day? How did you maintain your motivation?

I've started doing loaded shuttles (running with a 50lb sandbag over my shoulder). It's... interesting. It's a lot harder than regular running, idk.
