Is this, like, an EVIL robot or something? Because I don't find it particularly alarming or weird.

Nuuuuuuu. Legion is like the sweetest Mass Effect character ever. It's a collective of several AI in a mobile platform that just wants to get on with everyone, save its race, and be super cute learning how to interact with organic races.

*sniffs* Beautiful cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure.

Dawww! It sounds cute! But why is it a cinnamon roll? O_o

Ah, gotcha! Thanks anon.

DA

Cinnamon roll = tumblr talk for...basically the baby of the fandom, if I understand right.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think I know you.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-20 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Legion? Nope - honestly, iirc, he's* one of the few characters who ends up not being completely screwed up by the end, albeit one who always has one specific end.

*technically "he" is actually a huge collection of AI programs [a collective of sorts] within one physical body, which can be switched between millions of different programs

[personal profile] lb_lee 2015-04-20 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait. So it's not just a nice robot, but a MULTI robot?

HOW HAVE WE NOT HEARD OF THIS BEFORE.

--Rogan

(Anonymous) 2015-04-20 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, I'm not really sure multi* is quite the word, but basically yes. Also, I'm assuming you've never played Mass Effect and Legion - while awesome as hell, imo - is far from the most popular character in it.

*It's described very oddly from what I remember, so I could be wrong
lb_lee: M.D. making a shocked, confused face (serious thought)

[personal profile] lb_lee 2015-04-20 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
No, never played Mass Effect, likely never will. Buying the console, a TV that can hook up to the console, PLUS the game, would just be too much for us. Besides, from what I've heard, aren't those games REALLY long? Cool as they are, I can't imagine sticking with a game for that long.

AYRT

You can play it on PC - and, arguably, the controls are better on PC. As for long, that depends on how much you play/how many side missions you do.

Our computer, alas, is nine years old. It would probably keel over crying if we tried to play it on PC. We have a newer one soon to be in use, but I don't know if it has the specs to play it either.

technically it's more like a hivemind than a multi

Not evil, and actually pretty cool! They're a collective of a thousand AIs sharing a body and making decisions via consensus. In some ways, they come across as very collectivist, but their morality is focused on free will and letting others make their own choices. (Which is why they're so horrified by the villains' mind control abilities.) They can come off as strange or inhuman at times, but they can also be oddly cute.

This sounds like a character I want to know more about. Dammit, Bioware, why do you have all this shit I'm interested in, buried in 100-hour games that I will never play?

He's the last party member in the game, too! Folks actually modded the game to make him show up sooner, because you get so little time with him.

100-hr games... gah, I know. I'm a huuuuuge Dragon Age fan (even if I'm not really involved with the fandom, which, uh, given what I've heard about the DA:I fandom, is probably for the better... I needa ask people here for fic recs, because someone linked a really good, short one that I ended up bawling over and sent to my fiancee, who hasn't played the series but has some familiarity -- it's kinda hilarious, she sends me Teen Wolf fic, which I haven't watched but know very well through fandom osmosis, I sent her Dragon Age fics, which she hasn't played but knows... the same way) and my gods. I swear I disappeared every night for three months when the first game came out.

... I'm waiting until we move, and I can start job hunting (the place where my fiance -- different person than the above mentioned; poly -- works has massive turn-over, so they'll hire just about anyone; while I'd prefer something better, not having worked a traditional job in 12yrs means I take what I can get) and hopefully get hired and have paycheck. My new computer is missing graphics card and RAM, and considering as OP as the rest of the system is (6 core Intel chip, mobo with external OC controller, 900w PSU from hell, heavy as fuck case on wheels, 500GB SSD), I may just go for broke and stick a 980 nVidia in there. Cuz, I got started playing DA:I and put it to full settings, but my current machine could not quite handle it... but but but so pretty argh. It became distracting enough I'm setting aside until I have those components.

At which point, I'll probably disappear every night after work again until I finish it. >_> At least it'll be good stress relief after call center work?

Yeah, I'm really interested in Dragon Age, but our copy was glitched out so we couldn't get Sten, and we quit soon after. I really enjoy what little of the fandom and meta stuff I've seen, though!

It's probably just as well our copy was glitched out. It was too gory for Sneak, and I could NOT get the hang of the menu system.

[personal profile] elialshadowpine 2015-04-21 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you can turn off the gore. It's in the options. :)

There were definitely some glitches, but if you try reinstalling and patching, those should be well fixed by now. I'd give it a try! The menu system does take a bit of getting used to... they streamlined things a LOT in the second game. I like the epic fantasy feel of the story in the first game, but I've actually played the second more because the UI is soooo much easier.

The games altogether take 100+ hours depending on how you play them, but each game separately can be completed in around 25-40 hours. They are definitely worth a play if you can!

[personal profile] lb_lee 2015-04-21 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, okay, 25 to 40 is something I might be able to do. (I'm used to 1-20 hour games.) And I admit, I am really curious and intrigued! (Sneak tried to play Dragon Age Origins but it was too gory for zer.)
