Steven Universe and most of the newest cartoon hipster shows. I just tried the first 5 episodes. Maybe they get longer, but I felt my IQ drop. That show is SO meant for the younguns it's not even funny. And Amethyst is SO annoying. She's like Rainbow Dash x10. And I can tell Steven is a sweet kid, but I found him annoying. Pearl is just..not interesting to me and Garnet and Steven's dad are like the only slightly interesting characters.

I know I watch MLP, but that show doesn't treat it's child audience like its still pre-school level. Steven Universe, on the other hand, feels like it'd fit right in on Nick Jr. That and the SU fandom is feeling remarkably similar to the Bronies, only it's fem dominated this time.

WoW, to an extent. I just don't like where it's heading...and I'm really irritated with the orcs right now. A Draenei and Orc expac and we get nothing but more fucking orcs.

The MCU. I just...didn't get into it really. I like the movies fine, but the fandom is just insane.

I feel this on tumblr. It's gotten to the point when I cringe when I see another damned "autistic headcanon" because half the time it's so almost offensively stereotyped.

THIS SO MUCH. Though in my one fandom on tumblr it's a lot of genderfluid or transitioning headcanon, because it's a shonen thing and not too many females to pair with. But it all smacks of sterotypical and offensive stuff like the "guys" having to whiteknight the gender fluid or transitioning character.

She's a Zomibie. Groaning and moaning as a way of speaking is NOT coding her as autistic. Or her being ridiculously smart.

In fact, I'd find that offensive. Especially since she has close friends and doesn't even exhibit the most obvious signs of having Asperger's and such.

People who have close friends can't be autistic?

It's not that dude. Like, I've been around someone for all my life who has Asperger's He has friend's but he's NO WHERE NEAR as social as Ghoulia is. In fact, he talks to them from time to time, but would rather be at home playing his games. Also, he ALWAYS makes a mention when a routine is interrupted. He may not get unruly about it, but he ALWAYS mentions that. If the routine isn't messed with, he goes on with his day.

Ghoulia? She does sports events, she organizes clubs, she studies hard, she does a shit ton of stuff that is usually not associated with that. And she doesn't have a set routine, as far as we've seen.

My experience is probably limited, but Ghoulia strikes me as a nerd who is just that: a nerd. Who is a Zombie. Or are all of the zombies supposed to be autistic?

Your experience does sound very limited, yes.

Well, watch the damn show and you'll get what I'm saying. Ghoulia is no more autistic than most people.

Thiiiis. Ghoulia is my favorite, and her trope is more or less an extremely toned down version of racism.

Er...where'd you get racism? Is this about hiw the zombies are looked down on because they shamble and can't speak normally? Cause in that respect, I can see it.

Yep, that's pretty much where I got it from. It's not nearly as focused on as the whole fresh/salt water thing going for Lagoona and Gil, but it's there with how a lot of students seem to view zombies as a whole.

I feel this way about a lot of CN's newer cartoons and I'm not sure it's me being old as hell or what. I really liked Adventure Time at first but generally it felt like I liked 3 episodes out a season, and felt dumber for watching it. Some of them gave the dumb feeling right away, like The Regular Show.

+1 I feel like I don't "get" the new cartoon network shows. But I don't know if it's just being old because I can still watch cartoons, I just think the humor and storytelling has gone really downhill.

My generation sucks at making cartoons? Or the wrong people are being hired? I don't know, something has gone wrong.

I feel like it's gone downhill. But in general all across the board; TV shows and everything.

Adventure Time was decent at first, but I think they got too big for their britches and it's a cash cow now so they have no bothers to give about the actual story. Not to mention them shot themselves in the fandom foot by denying anymore stories of past Ice King and Marceline, when the fandom was begging for it. Not sure if the caved and have made some episodes or not since, dropped it a season or two ago.

A lot of the cartoons are either super cliches or one long tired played out running gag. I honestly don't get how kids like them, but they are maybe not being as critical as an old fart like me.

I couldn't get into SU because I found Steven too obnoxious and everything else just boring. A lot of people have recommended it to me because it references things I like, but it's not nearly as good as the things it references (for one example, it is no Utena that's for damn sure.)

The fandom is getting really irritating too, it's full of wank and it's fucking everywhere right now.

It shouldn't surprise me since Adventure Time did an Evangelion ref, but I am. How exactly did they ref Utena?

I've never gotten into any of those shows. I think the last thing I got into was....Spongebob. I enjoy WoW, but I am not as focused on the lore.

Headcanons don't bother me so much as people insisting their headcanons are canon.

WoW: Jfc, this. I'm so freaking sick of orcs at this point. Like, this is an expac I've enjoyed but there really, really needed to an expac between this and MoP that *wasn't* based around orcs just so that it broke the whole thing up a bit.

The headcanons - yes. God yes. In one of my fandoms one particular character being transwoman has gotten big and...idk why. Yes, he's canonly gay - but he's also very much male - both in presentation and how he talks about himself.
