It's funny, I'm the opposite - I don't identify with them, I just play god.

I sort of do this, but I was thinking I take a different approach to The Sims than to other games, and am definitely more likely to connect with characters from games that have built-in stories.

(I don't "play God" in an absolute way since I like to let some stuff happen on its own, but I love to build a neighborhood of people that I design, and then track it and watch who has kids and who marries who and keep a genealogy...I keep having to stop for various reasons so I really want to keep one going for at least a few generations)

Oh man. I feel this secret so hard. My Sims are like my children. (There's only been one Sim of mine that I was kinda in love with.)

I love some of my Sims, and use the others as slave workers to keep the ones I love in their lifestyles and let them work on their art and have fun.

LOL if you want slaves install ITF and make simbots do anything you want. They're overpowered af.

I get overtly attached to my Sims (maybe because almost all of them tend to be fandom Sims, and I get really into creating them and setting up my OTP's plus giving them nice houses, appropriate jobs, canon friends, etc) but I almost never play a video game that doesn't move me in some way. I'm easily manipulated.

Sounds like me. I only a few days ago downloaded and started setting up a house for Fenris and Anders. It might take a bit more to get Isabela and Zevran into town, because unless I get sims from the Exchange, I don't have them coming up in the Gallery and have to construct them myself.

I haven't downloaded Sims in a long time! (Since the original, I think.) I bet there's some impressive fandom ones out there.

Half of the fun for me is making them myself (and trying to be as accurate as possible) but it is a time consuming process and the main reason I haven't reinstalled the game (though I have backups, reinstalling shit takes so much time) or started over.

I wish you luck on your creations!

One thing that helps if you're more inclined to making them yourself is that the ones available for download will mean you can find some of the more unique parts, like iconic hairstyles and outfits. The Anders and Fenris I mentioned have custom hair, makeup, fake ears and tattoos that all go into making them look the part.

I choose which Sims I'm going to identify with and which ones I'm going to play cruel games with. When I'm playing the "identify with" ones and one of the "cruel games" ones comes along to make friends or w/e I always make the "identify with" sims be nice to them tho lol

Text: I’ve ever felt the slightest bit of emotional connections with any computer game character I’ve ever played, except my Sims.

I tend to be more attached to my sims if I make them up as Fandom characters. The exceptions come when I make up sims for my pre-existing OCs (like my icon, whose basic story existed for 10 years before I made sims of her family), or when I get attached to the "canon" sims, like how I got really attached to Mortimer Goth and Bella Bachelor in S3.

Oh, and on Oraania (icon, again), her and her family's storyline gained huge amounts of progress while I played sims of them.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't feel any connections to movie characters, but video game characters are a whole different story for me.
