Some people are more literal-minded than others.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
so?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
They need to be laughed at as often as possible to break them of this dreadful tendency.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, don't be mean. You don't need to be mean.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
and you need to be stabbed through the ear.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
See, it's a good thing I don't take things literally, or that would have really hurt my feelings!

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I assume you don't mean we should laugh at and mock autistic people to cure them, and just didn't think how ableist you might sound.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, I certainly don't assume anything when it comes to the spectrum and people online. On account of all the self-diagnosis.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, everyone who takes things literally is autistic.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't seem to have understood the point. No one said "everyone".

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

Suggesting mocking something that's a trait of any disability is ableist. That doesn't mean everyone with the trait has a disability. Just, it's not nice to encourage bullying of people with a trait that can be part of a disability.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
OR. We treat people like PEOPLE, as in individuals, and so are able to appropriately determine whether someone's behavior is part of a disability or just an unpleasant aspect of their personality.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
can we really do that, though

like, aren't you basically claiming to be able to diagnose autism over the internet rn

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
So if someone displays an undesirable trait that MIGHT be indicative of a disability, we should just ignore it and play nicely because they MIGHT be disabled (or then again they might just be an asshole)??

Or do we see an undesirable behavior (hereafter: dickishness), attempt to correct or confront it, then learn the reason behind the dickishness, and respond appropriately from there?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
So it's okay to bully someone for having a trait that isn't part of a disability?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like that actually others people with disabilities more than anything, or just reduces them to a set of traits. Like you've taken a complex person and made that one part of them so much a part of who they are that you can insult them just by possibly accidentally referencing that one part, even if the thing you're referencing can be something else, too.

I dunno, I don't think I'm explaining This very well. There's just something really off to me about this
