(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)But then again, she was never a canon love interest for anyone, certainly not Light, so I don't think she really "interferes" with the slash. Nothing and nobody interfered with the slash in Death Note.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)I know that Light never loved her in canon, but what I meant was that I actively villainize her in my fic.
Example: Light falls for L and Misa finds out and does everything in her power to keep them them apart. That sort of stuff.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)Yeah, I know, I just mean I don't think actively villainizing her is sabotaging her character at all. If Light fell for L then Misa actually would do everything in her power to keep them apart, probably up to stabbing L herself. Whereas with most female characters who "get in the way" of slash ships, they are unfairly villainized and turned into petty, violent bitches. Misa actually does fit the bill though imo

(Anonymous) 2015-04-21 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)I know for one of my slash ships, the girlfriend has a bit of an elitist streak and really disliked the guy I slash her boyfriend with. In my fic, I tend to play that up.
I also think her boyfriend shows that he cares WAY more about the other dude than he ever does about her.
I wouldn't insist that it's canon or anything. But I do think it's a legitimate interpretation of their characters.
