Attack on Titan and Harry Potter. For AoT, I am just meh. For Harry Potter, I get overwhelmed by the amount of fic.

The easiest way to sort through Harry Potter is to pick a character and read through some of those stories. I know it's super overwhelming but I loved the fandom and only wish I knew where everyone hung out, besides tumblr.

I've tried. I picked Draco cuz he looked like a good woobie. But I can't seem to find any gen fics in the fandom. Eventually I would get into some kind of pairing, but I wanted to start with Gen fic.

Ah gen fic is so much harder to find in the HP fandom.

I just wish I knew where people went. I want to have discussions with people again! I miss the LJ communities so much.

There doesn't even seem to be a search fic comm for gen fic! Or at least anything other than [SPECIFIC PAIRING] fic.

There probably was an active one years ago, but at this point, the fandom's so splintered.

I'll look through my history to see if I can find any gen fics, but most of my favorites tend towards romances (I like Draco/Ginny a lot)

I feel the same way about AoT. I've seen so much artwork from the series and all I can think is"...whatever." But it's this huge juggernaut, and everyone's raving about it, and... argh, dammit, I just don't have the time.

The thing that made me think I should watch was that my older sister liked it. SHE HATES ANIME!

It was recommended to me by one of my sweetest, kindest friends, a person I always assumed was the opposite of what shounen manga writers and artists aim at. I'm still so confused that she was the one urging me to read it. :]
