Yeah, pretty much. When people have a group of antagonist (or characters that don't have the best personality) they like they call them their "trash babies", and pairings of said like characters are "trash pairings" or call themselves weeaboo trash for being OTT fandomy.

IDK, I just take it as a tumblr fandom thing and shrug it off. It's the least offensive thing about tumblr... probably.

It's not because it's cool, it's because the resident SJW have a hobby of bashing certain ships by calling them and the people who ship them trash. So some shippers are embracing being called garbage as a way to not get any harassment for shipping it.
