I cannot stand all the "lol this ship is trash" or "I'm so trash for shipping this" posts. Guess what, assholes, I ship this too, and I didn't sign up to play your stupid self hate game. Calling someone human garbage for having harmless fun is fucking horrible.

I just...I hate it when people won't OWN what they like.

I unapologetically enjoy the things I do. That doesn't mean I don't understand why someone would dislike or even hate them. That doesn't mean I think it's completely healthy or perfect. Nope. It just means I enjoy the dynamic. Or the story. Or the relationship. I think it's well written. Or maybe just hot.

But I don't see the point in pretending otherwise.

I also hate it when people give lip service to things they're clearly not interested in just to seem "fair" or to "support" the latest social justice character or pairing.

There's no reason to shit on it, but don't pretend to care if you don't. It's just frustrating.

Some of us have self deprecating senses of humor, and it's a lot nicer to make fun of yourself then to make fun of other people.

This is definitely a slang term I don't get(I'm getting old, lol), I wont knock people using it, carry on if it's amusing to you, but it's not a word I'd use. It doesn't bother me so much though, I just find it a little confusing.

Thank you OP. I know exactly how you feel. This is supposed to be a place were all fandoms are accepted but that is total bullshit. I can't post about my OTP here because there are some very nasty people who don't like it. They turn into bullies with their nasty comments and name calling. I don't post about them here and enjoy my very much active fandom while some of theirs die. So fuck the haters and enjoy what you like.

I hate it because I don't understand when it became seen as unacceptable to simply like what you like without needing to add qualifiers like that.

I get that the people who use "shipper trash" aren't serious, but I don't like it either. Maybe I can't take a joke or maybe I'm just tired of hearing it. *shrugs*

I think it's kinda of a positive reinforcement, at least to those who are new to shipping?

In detail, I think this whole thing first started out as a way for fandom newbies to gush about unconventional ships without being judged in Tumblr (where harassing people for simply shipping happens disturbingly often) and it just kinda snowballed from then on. The fair-weather crowd then picked it up and abused the notion to death.

For me, I just ship and ship away!

Because one person's trash is another person's treasure and it's a way of acknowledging that you like something while telling others to fuck off because they think you ~trashy~ for it.

So many people used to whine about people only caring about shipping (shipper trash), liking really awful characters (X character is trash!), etc. It lessens the sting.

The Tumblr tag for my latest OTP is rampant with this phenomenon, and at first, I found it really offputting and irritating, so I absolutely agree with your point.

That said, I have at least one IRL friend who's an anime fan and uses the "I'm trash" joke a lot, and given that my latest OTP does involve a 30 year age gap between the actors alone (as well as several other pairings that are a bit fucked/demented/inappropriate), give or take, I've kind of fallen in to saying I'm trash as well, even though it irked me so much at first.

I feel you, actually. I know it's a joke, but a lot of times it's used completely seriously. I'm sick of the idea that you can't unironically like anything anymore. I mean, when you have people sending others anon hate or rude comments because they reblogged some ~problematic~ character/ship and they think they're apologist because the blogger didn't say anything critical, then I'm thinking it's not really as humorous as people say.
