Is anyone else watching this? What do you think?

I keep meaning to. It got so I hated the original NCIS because I hated Gibbs and DiNozzo so much. And while I enjoyed the first season of NCIS: LA, for some reason I stopped watching and never really went back to it. It doesn't help that I've gradually become pretty anti military. But the new Orleans version looked like it might be more interesting and less likely to have characters that would hit my rage button.

See, I still love Gibbs and DiNozzo so that might damn NCIS: NO right there for you. (I'm curious when you stopped. Ever since Ziva left, I feel like Tony's been doing better. He only gets hijacked whenever his dad is brought back (and they cannot stop doing those storylines fast enough for me). But I've heard people still consider him a bit of a frat boy so maybe nothing's changed in that regard for you.)

I also liked NCIS LA and then just stopped watching. I think it was more of a scheduling thing for me and then I just got behind. Same for H50. I'll get to them eventually.

NCIS NO is just as pro-military as the other shows.

As far as characters, I'm not sure. Until the last episodes, I thought the coroner was playing up the wise black woman trope and that was annoying. But they finally gave her a bit on an arc and a good meaty episode focused on her so I'm feeling more positive about that. I really enjoy the computer tech. I thought the CSI tech was trying too hard to be a "goofball" character but he has slowly endeared himself to me. Both techs are nerds and have great banter with each other. The others are kind of blah but I do like that there's more of a family-feel to this unit (like the main guy keeps cooking dinner for everyone, etc.).

My criticisms are that they play up the New Orleans setting too hard. I've seen other shows/movies that take place in New Orleans and show the local color without beating me over the head with it. And King (the MC) kind of has a Horatio Caine vibe. I don't want to necessarily compare him to Gibbs/Hetty/Horatio but I feel like he's got this super-specialness to him that he hasn't fully earned. But that's not something that comes up all the time so I can usually ignore it.

You might be interested in the storylines of the two younger agents. The guy's main arc is that he's looking for his bi-polar brother and now has to take care of him. And the woman froze in a shoot (because someone she cared about committed suicide) but her main storyarc is settling into New Orleans.

I will say that the cases and episodes are pretty standard fair. Nothing's really wowed or intrigued me. They're solid but nothing to write home about.
